Forthcoming launch - THOR 5

THOR 5 is set to launch in the first quarter of 2008 and will be based on Orbital’s industry leading STAR™ satellite platform. THOR 5 will replace our current THOR II satellite as well as provide additional transponders for future growth.

Telenor's new spacecraft will provide Ku-band fixed telecommunications and direct-to-home television broadcasting services from Telenor's 1º West Longitude orbital location. The new satellite will have 24 transponders with three times more payload power compared to the current THOR II orbital location. This will improve our existing coverage in the Nordic countries, Europe and the Middle East.

Thor 5 now Due to launch on the 10th of Febuary 2008 at 11:33am GMT.

According to Telenor's programmes listing the launch will be shown on Thor 2 at 1W on transponder 3, frequency 11.247 Polarity V, Symbol rate 24.500, FEC 7/8
The service ID will be 156.

The launch has been postponed 24 hours due to an anomaly with the ground systems at the launch site and is now due to launch on 11/02/08 at 11:33 UTC / 12:33 CET.

I was trying to tune into the other feed on NSS 7 but I was not getting any thing so I started going through there web site with the launch details on and found them updating each page with the change of date.

Bit of a pain really because I will be at work when they want to launch it now.

THOR 5 has a successful launch. Lift off occurred at 6:34 a.m. EST (5:34 p.m. Baikonur, 11:34 GMT).

The Breeze M has just successfully completed its third burn and shutdown phase, including jettison of the Additional Propellant Tank (APT). Now the space unit enters a long, 5-hour coast phase, and there will be nothing to report during that time. Then things will start happening in rapid sequence

I've recorded the launch in the MPEG-2 format. if any of you would like 2 see it send me a pm an I'll get back to you.
