foxsat hd setup problems

Hi all, newbie to sat tv, been lurking here for a while and just setup my dish and need help!!

I have a Humax foxsat hd with a Fortec star 65cm dish and single lnb and live in Leeds.
I set up the dish etc and can get ITV HD clear as a bell with signal 100% and quality about 65/70% but when I switch to BBC HD i get no reading at all on signal strength. So what am I doing wrong? (I bet the answer is blindingly obvious!) :-ohcrap

yeah thats the one, but I'm just about to change it for the twin lnb - FSHD-L02 - will have a play with the skew when I fit it. thanks for info. Didn't realise skew could effect some channels and not others, i.e. I thought if skew was ok for ITV it would be ok for BBC.
 
The whole point of skew is to present the LNB towards the Satellite(s) in such an attitude that it efficiently receives both Horizontalyl and Vertically polarised signals. If not set right, you will generally get poor reception on at least one Polarity.

So, as ITV1 HD is 10832 H and BBC1 HD/BBC HD are both 10847 V ...........................

Quick edit: me ladders not long enough and me drills battery has gone awol, try again tomorrow! :confused:
 
You don't need a drill to adjust skew!


Just a screwdriver to slacken the LNB collar a tiny bit so you can twist the LNB.

No, I'm running another cable to a 2nd reciever, which is why I got the twin lnb. I live in an upstairs flat and the downstairs neighbours are away on hols, so to get in the garden to get to the dish is like getting into Fort Knox/running an assault course, so its not a matter of just nipping out to adjust lnb, need to get all cables and everything in place first . cheers for help, much appreciated.
 
Job done (with the help of mums walking stick! reached out the window and adjusted the skew with it a little at a time :)) 100% quality and signal on all channels. Thanks for your help Tivu :-worship

PS, just noticed new software available OTA, is this coincidence or is it because I now have lnb set correctly?
 
Great job.

The software comes from the same default TP as the EPG ............. so if you had the EPG before, then the update should have been available.

But who knows: I've got both the non-PVR and PVR Foxsats and the PVR was the last one to receive an update.
 
Must be coincidence then. Had EPG before, but no new software update notification.

Nice pic.

Watch that climmbing plant though. Before you know it, it'll have grown over the LNB and you'll be wondering why the signal has gone!

Yeah, my downstairs neighbours job that! He's promised to keep it in trim, but if it gets near anything I can reach out the window and lop it off!! the plant that is.
