Ive just bought one of these for the bedroom to replace an ailing old fta Sky box. Im reasonably impressed with it - the picture quality is really quite nice even cannected via scart onto a 14" portable tv. First time setup was a few minutes work - the biggest decision was the postcode to enter - Ive used a Midlands one to wave goodbye to the terrible BBC Scotland.

However - there are a couple of minor niggles - the remote control is plasticy and just nasty. The buttons are badly laid out - channel change is up-down on the centre rocker buttons, not left right like on many other receivers. There is a second set of channel change buttons just below them - in a left right configuration this time. WHY??

The box defaults to Radio 1 after a power off which seems an odd choice, and atm I havent found a way of changing it. Id rather it came back up on BBC News for example, or even the last viewed channel

The remote has a tv button on it BUT cant be used to control a tv volume or on/off, which is infuriating for a unit used in a bedroom. However Ive found a way round this - a few months ago I got a free LIME power saving plug:

so the tv and box are plugged into this and the useless tv button on the remote has been assigned to switch power off to both This means of course the box resets to bloody Radio 1 when we switch back on - see note above........

Summary - a nice receiver spoiled by a generally poor remote control unit

I've got one of these on a 2nd TV (main one is a Foxsat HDR) and it usually starts up on the channel I turned it off.

Is yours the standard RM-108? Mine has TV/Radio buttons that just choose a subset of channels - maybe you're confusing the function of them and leaving it in "radio" mode?

Not the best remote, but not the worst either.

There's a section in the manual that covers coding the remote to control a TV, a bit like a Sky remote.

Actually I think I'm completely wrong about that. I think it just controls the STB volume.

Must disagree with you completely there. Surely the UK's most popular satellite receiver, the Digibox et al, use the top and bottom parts of the rocker around the central OK button in the same manner. I don't find it particularly strange at all.

Although I'm basing this on the HDR remote I would imagine that it's the same with regards to this.
