In the process of buying Humaxfoxsat
WXP PROFESSIONAL
My Location

Hi
We have a HD Ready tv that we wish to connect to a out of use Sat dish, to enable for Freesat.
Expired Sky
What do I need starting from scratch, hoping for a Humax fox set top box.
Inc installation instructions etc.

Probably need new cabling from and connection from dish

Hi Gezz

First you need to establish which satellite your dish is currently pointed at ..
It could then be re-positioned to 28.2degrees East for Freesat ..
You hint at 'expired sky'so maybe it is already pointing at the correct sat ..
but do you mean expired..as in an old analogue dish ??
Chances are your old dish is only fitted with a single LNB which will be fine for just a single tuner receiver ..
..but would need to be replaced with a twin lnb for a dual tuner/recorder type receiver ..

Family member has Sky dish in use, I understand I can fit a quad LNB to run my Freesat as well as his Sky.

Any advice on this idea

Just seen in Argos a Humax Foxsat HD Freesat Box reduced to £129-00

What are members thoughts re freesat boxes.

The Foxsat is an excellent piece of kit ..............
 
And so is the Foxsat HDR - although it's a fair bit more pricy!
 
Yes, I fancy those once I come into some dosh :)
 
All set up and running thanks, but picture has occasional snow flecks.
Hope its the weather.

HD program tonight showing clear faces and slightly fuzzy background.

Using the HDMI out of box, would I benefit from a better one, or even better Scart cables.

HDMI cable will be fine.

SCART only required if you have some other device eh Recorder in he chain.

I found that with both HDMI and SCART physically connected between Foxsat and TV, there were occasional brief lines on screen similar to the old interference pattern you got on old kit when a car with spark ignition went past or the Iron thermostat changed state.

Removed SCART and all was/is well.
 
Plugging in just the HDMI cable we get no picture but fine with scart so something wrong somewhere.

Hitatchi 2 yr old 42 " Plasma TV

Now off to check if it is the TV setup

There is a slight incompatibility between the Foxsat and many TVs regarding how HDMI Handshaking performs.

You might find it green screens or something similar for a few seconds before acquiring the signal.
 
We get "no signal" on the screen

Tried just the HDMI cable without any scart

You've got me stumped, I'm afraid.

Also, the handshaking incompatibility I mentioned seems to have been cured since the Application Software Upgrade of a few days ago: For the first time, my Telly acquires the HDMI signal straight away and consistently.
 
Will let you know as I have a TV arial/Enginer calling tomorrow(friend)
I am almost convinced it is my TV not setup properly to accept The signal from HDMI.

Have you tried changing the TV input manually?

On your TV remote somewhere will be a button labelled Input or AV or AU or similar. Press this and change the input to wichever of the HDMI ports your cable is connected to. It may be that with the scart connected previously that you have never actually been watching an HD picture.
 
Good point Paul - I rather assumed he'd have done that!
 
No visable AV/AU on remote but found AV button under TV screen, pressed until ext 6 appeared and HD working fine.

Switching off and back on same procedure required but now just get a Green screen,waited a while but no change.

Switched off and on ,same procedure again and HD back on,

Seems to be hit and miss selection.

When I first setup Freesat I now realise I did it all wrong because initially the HDMI cable only was connected but screen not accepting so not knowing about AV selection I have set up with the addition of Scart.

My friend postponed his visit until later in week and I think it now needs to be cleared and resetup.

Well that's progress after a fashion!

As you say, do a completely fresh Installation accounting for the hiccups you've had and maybe all will be well :)

Tried New install
Can still only get on manually and he thinks that is the only way
Working well but cannot get on without scrolling for in this case Ext 6.

He informs me that some Sony HD ready TVs have the same setup

Mine is an Hitachi 42PD6600 HD ready.
