Freesat on demand - do you need a dish

and before you call the paddy wagon,,im in tenerife and e donmt get astra2d,so what is the ethernet connection used for just to send or do you get pictures from it...

BBCi ITVi (& 4OD if its started - our BB isnt fast enough to bother with streaming TV).

(Depending on your receiver - not all are available on every model)
 
As far as I understand yes you need an active satellite signal, although which channels I havent the faintest idea.
 
The way I read it, it's a collective name for I-player, ITV Player and the like so delivery is by internet connection, so no dish needed. However, you would probably need a UK IP address to receive it - or use a proxy server.
 
You can watch BBCI player & the like on a computer with no satellite signal. But as pgh says you would need a UK based proxy as the normal content is geolocked.

With the Freesat box you do need an active signal of some sort for the box to work.
 
I also very much suspect that, even if you did get enough of a signal to load the initiating page the geo-locking would stop you.
The same presumably applies to the iPlayer etc. interfaces on a PS3 used outside UK.
 
Yup - any ip outside the UK will be blocked. You need a UK proxy or a vpn in to the UK.
 
Try using Expat Shield......com. It provides you with a UK ip address for free. It is used by a lot of Expats here in Germany to access BBC Iplayer etc..
