Hi Huevos
I have now received the card, but it states that I need to connect the box to a telephone line!
What is my next step do I connect box up and phone them to activate the card now?
As I understood it, when you receive your FSFS card it gives you a phone mumber to ring after you've inserted the card into your STB. I've never heard of them stating that the box needs connecting to the phone line for a FSFS card.

Does the paperwork give a phone number to ring?

Hi Paul
I agree that I did not think it would require connecting to a phoneline, but they stated yes!:confused
I know that a subscription service requires 1 year term but not a one off payment for a free to air card.
Telephoned them that this was not explained to me when I ordered and purchased the card, they apologised and said should that it should have been. They then informed that for a further £25.00 they would activate it ...... making the total cost £50.00:eek:

Something wrong there - FSFS Terms & Conditions specifically mention No Phone Line required.

I'll see if I can find the relevant bits and pieces. Phone line only insisted upon when Subsidised box is provided (12 months) and for multiroom (Permanent).

Even then, it's only policed for multiroom.

FREESAT from Sky Terms and Conditions - FREESAT from Sky

The relevant para says:

"Do I have to connect my Box to a phone line?

No. However, as part of a standard installation we will try to connect your Box to a working telephone line to enable you to make full use of the interactive services available on the digital satellite platform. We will do this unless you ask us not to, or an appropriate socket is not available, or the Box cannot be connected for another reason. In connecting the Box to the socket we will use the nearest available socket and any cabling will be clipped to the relevant skirting."

It appears you spoke to an idiot.

You did ring the FSFS number, not the Sky Customer Services number, didn't you?

Hi Tivu
This where I got the number from.

I already have Sky digital satellite equipment - what else do I need?
All you need to gain access to the free channels available on the digital satellite platform is a Freesat from Sky viewing card, which costs just £25. If you’d like to access the interactive services available, you’ll also need a working phone line. To purchase a viewing card please phone Sky on 08448 244 400.

The number to ring to activate an FSFS Card is provided on a letter accompanying the Card. Don't call any other number.

As you can see, the Terms & Conditions are very clear and they cannot charge you a further fee because you do not choose to provide a phoneline.

That £25 fee is, however, applicable to folk taking a non-multiroom Subscription and electing not to fulfil the 12 mth connection requirement that would otherwise apply.

Whoever you spoke to is not adequately trained and has mixed up two separate issues.

Finally, the "Interactive Features" referred to in what you posted are NOT the Red Button stuff that you might at first think, but all the Sky crap that has nothing to do with watching telly and everything to do with emptying your wallet. I feel sure you do not wish to access the Interactive Services referred to ...................

Hi Tivu

I totally agree with what you stated.

Basically I telephoned the previous number stating I required a free to air white card. Which would be used for my holiday home a caravan in the Lake District. They informed me that the charge would be £25.00 card would arrive in 3 to 4 day's time.
A few day's later the card arrives with instuctions to connect box up a telephone line and then ring the number provided.
I telephoned the number in question stating that the free to air card instructions was requesting that I first connect the box to a telephone line. I queried this with them they stated yes that is correct it require connecting to a phoneline to enable them to activate it. I then stated that my holiday did not have a landline to connect to. They then stated that for a further £25.00 they would activate it manually which would not require connecting to a landline.
Tivu basically the card is now been activated do I now query that I was misinformed about this additional charge and demand a refund?

Well yes, it must be queried as it is totally wrong: Refer them to their own Terms & Conditions as freely published (and which I linked to and quoted a few Posts ago).

Well I'm glad you got your money back - but I do hope your Call Package is such that it didn't cost you too much to obtain restitution!

No idea about TDT, I'm afraid.

Two steps forwards, one back ................ !!

you will need an aerial, possibly a mast head amplifer and indoor power supply, and tdt receiver (you can have HD, SD, USB recording etc c all from 30 euros to a lot more!)

see tdt1.com (good updated list for areas) or tdt.es (input your postcode for reception details) for reception information and what channels you can get. But in soem cases not all masts or local repeaters are on there, so your best transmitter may not be one on the list. a local installer or town hall wil know the nearest / best mast for your area.

but there are NO UK channels on TDT, but in many cases most UK / USA imports can be watched with their origial version language.
