Freesat postcode - does it affect signal strength?

OK, sounds like my mental picture was somewhat dumb; postcode selection is not a way to improve signal. Installer seems pretty confident about 80cm and I have challenged him on that a couple of times, so if it is not sufficient he will have to change it. I will post again in January, let you know how it goes.

No, it isn't dumb at all!

You still might, just might, have to fiddle around to get an ITV Region off 2D (ie the Free To Air ones that your Humax sees) of one Polarity or the other - but the chance of you having to do this where you are going to live is small indeed. But, unlike BBC Regions on the Foxsat, that would need a Postcode change.

Basically, just forget about it until you are there, and up and running.

In the very unlikely event of it being an issue, it will take minutes to sort out :)

But, as said before, going a size up from 80cm would reduce those chances even further - towards nil, in fact.

Finally got my Humax box to Spain. The 80cm dish is fine where I am (on the coast between Tarragona and Barcelona) - I get all the Freesat stuff, including BBC HD, and if I manually tune, a lot of other, (more or less useless) channels. The postcode input seems just to re-order the channels to bring the "local" ones up the the top of the EPG. You could give it any postcode you liked, as long as it was a valid one (but it seems you must give it one).

Good to hear. Have you had any bad weather yet so you can see what reception is like when the rain is falling heavily?
 
Some rain and quite windy, but so far not had any really stormy weather while I have been there. Did get a poor reception message once, and some odd behaviour (picture scrambling every second or so) but reboot of Humax box sorted it, so don't think that was weather related. We are beneath flight path for Barcelona, i.e. aircraft could be flying across beam from satellite, though still quite high up where we are. Would that cause temporary glitches, do you think?

To be honest, I have far more problems with my Freeview box in Glasgow - keeps freezing up, and channels are all over the place. Maybe I should change to Freesat here too!
 
Unless the planes are so low that the s ky goes dark I doubt they'd be a problem!
 
Curiously, I'll be moving to Banyeres soon, only a 20min drive from Calafell, so I suppose the exact same conditions.

What about a multifeed antenna, an eliptical 85cm such as the
MAXIMUM E-85?

Could I receive 28.2E, 19E and 5W with this? That would be really cool:
UK, Holland, Germany and France on the dish and Spain on the DVB-T

Probably down to dish size.
