Hi
Apologies for my lack of knowledge concerning satellites. I have just purchased a Panasonic TH42PZ81B (built in Freesat). I have purchased a dish namley OAS FLAT 44 DISH Universal 40mm from Maplin and have been assured it would pick up freesat. So far I have had no luck. The tv has picked up no signal at all! I Have checked the connections and continuity of cable. I am now wondering if the dish has ecer worked? I there a way to check? Any advice greatly received.

Many thanks

How are you aligning the dish? Are you using a meter of some sort?

Also I think from looking at the design, they need to be aligned like a prime focus dish as I believe they are not like an offset, thus the angle of attack will be much higher than that of a regular mini-dish....but then again, I'm not sure :D

Hi
Many thanks for your replys. I will try altering the angle. So far inorder to align the dish I have used a compass and matched the angle roughly of the other dishs. Not great is the inexpensive toll that would hlep me do this job? Being a flat dish it is very hard to align. I was also under the impression that being a flat dish it was easier to line up.

Thanks

See: disphpointer.com, enter the location and select Astra 2A from the drop down box and click Go.

This will give you a pretty good idea of the rough Azimuth direction with your compass.

I too have a couple of those dishes m8, i bought them from my wholesaler thinking they would look quite trick for white houses/discreet instillations and caravans etc, i can confirm that they are quite difficult to align even with a good quality satellite meter, the strength and quality recieved is very low in comparison with a zone 1 sky dish so much so i doubt i could bring myself to sell to customers so it looks like i'll be using them as doorstops.)(-red)(-red)(-red)(-red)(-red

I installed one of these the other week for a customer on hotbird and must say the reception & signal levels was no way as good as a standard 60cm dish. I wasnt that impressed with it.

Be interested to see the technical measurements of these dishes on transponders such as those with an error correction of 5/6 as a higher carrier/noise level would be needed :)
