Sorry I couldn't seem to add this to the Freesat FAQs, so started this thread.

My question is:
I have a SKY receiver, an invalid card as I cancelled my subscription (took a year to stop the direct debit though but that's another thread I suppose!).
Is there anyway of using this receiver for receiving Freesat without any additional charges or do I have to get a 20 pound card from SKY or elsewhere?

Hiya OSAG, welcome to the forum :)

A sky subscription card becomes a FreeSatFromSky card when the sub is discontinued. (Unless the card is totally deactivated for any reason)

You can easily find out if you now have a FSFS card - try Five, Fiver, FiverUs, Sky3, and Setanta Sports News. If you can view them the card is still acting as a FSFS card.

If the card has been out of the receiver for a while then put it back in and wait a couple of days.
 
A Sky box, with or without a card will receive the bbc Freesat channels anyway, the card just gives you a handful of extra channels as listed by Analoguesat
 
Although C4 and Five are now FTA, or at least to some receivers, you'l need a working card to get these channels on a Digibox at the moment.

If the Digibox or card has been out of use for a while then the box "forgets" the details of the card and returns to its default condition. You'll only get channels 101, 102 and 103 (BBC1, BBC2 and ITV1) when you switch on. Putting the card in sets the regions for 101, 102 and 103 (probably not a worry for you) and also puts 104 (C4) and 105 (Five) onto the channel listing. You'll need to keep the card in for watching Five but C4 stays on with the card taken out.
 
Actually Paul, you do not need a working card for channel 5 at least. It can be accessed via tuning in 'Other Channels' 10773H, 22000, 5/6.

Id did my sons TV in his bedroom a few days ago.

Presumably the same can be done for channel 4 if necessary, I had a card in when I first received that, but took it out approx 2 weeks ago.
 
Just sussed out there's a "thank you" button but wanted to say "thanks guys" here as well, I'll be taking your help on board and hopefully get round to trying that out this afternoon when my little one's in bed!O-zzz U-zzz

So it seems I don't have to pay SKY for a card if I've already got one, here's hoping!
 
C4 is now free to air for all users apart from those in Ireland.

Yes, but as I discovered last week, if the Digibox has been switched off and reverted to default condition, channels 104 and 105 are missing from the EPG. You have to put a card in to put these channels back in to the EPG.

Then you can watch C4 without a card.
 
Hi I have this crazy situation of having the old dark blue card,when inserted it gives Me BBC 1/2& Itv 0n 101/2/3 but nothing on 104 or 105,It also gives Me the F T V English channels E4 etc.I have no idea of the origions of the card as it came with a 2nd hand receiver.Strangely it does not give me setanta news ftv.Any ideas how I could make 104&105 appear on the E.P.G ? I have tried Many reboots with that card inserted&after searching for listings it never brings them to E.P.G but does make the box think It is living in U.K !I have done a forced software upgrade.

I also have the 2nd card(yellow house light blue)Sky issued to a Republic of Ireland address.When that is inserted It does not give the U.K F.T.V channels,but does unflag,Setanta news&box office previews and 101 becomes R T E 1&generally makes the box think it is now living in the Irish Republic?????
Confused??? well not half as much as I am Ha Ha!.Anybody know what is going on???

with the old dark blue card inserted If I check systym details It says NO CARD ! ?
If i take out card the F T V channels disappear though !!!!!!!!!!
