Hey, i really need help!! im looking at setting up freesat through an old amstrad box we have, but me being a bit thick, i need someone to tell me how to set everything up from start to finish! even down to plugging the thing in! basically a step by step guide, i still have the dish on the wall and everything.

so if there is anybody out there that really wants to help please get back to me!!

also any advice with linking freeview (just for setanta sports) and "multi-room" setup would be great!!!

Dish required and set up to Astra28E.
Freesat receivers with their own EPG are available from £49, cheap enough but any SD receiver will receive the free broadcasts from Astra2.
 
ok, cheers well iv already got the sky dish on the wall now i need to know about connecting the box to the dish and tv etc.... i really am thick when it comes to this!!!
 
Cable from dish to satellite input ('IF' 950 -2150), scart connector from receiver to TV (scart TV), mains plug into power socket.
 
If the dish is still on the wall and still pointing to 28E, all you need to do to start with is connect some satellite cable from the LNB on the dish to your receiver (Assuming that it is a Sky Digibox). Then plug the receiver in and turn on, and connect to to the TV via Scart. Select the appropriate scart input on the TV and you should see a sky channel.

Press the guide button, or whatever it is called on the Sky remote, and pick all channels or similar, and press OK. You should then have a long list of channels. Select them and press OK to watch.
 
cheers people, yea its an amstrad digibox still with the card in it, i'v got the cables so going to plug that into the sky socket thing in the wall if thats what it is !
 
rite just got it working, no c5, but can sort that out. just 1 other thing is there any type of"splitter" that i can use for the digiboxes? like you can get with normal connection for running other units in other rooms.

i want to add a box to my bedroom and will get a freesat card from sky just want to make it easer for myself!!!
 
Glad you are up and running

No a splitter will not work, you need a quad output lnb and run one cable to each required box
 
ok cheers thought that would be the case, how hard id it to change that? and do you know anything i could do to get 5 on there?

To get Five on your Murdoch Box, you need to navigate to Add Channels and then do a scan on 10773 H 22000 5/6.

It won't go on the EPG,so you access it through Other Channels.

Annoying, I know - but you can only get it on 105 with a £20 Card.

Either that or grab yourself a Freesat Receiver or a cheap FTA Receiver.

if you just leave the box pwered up -- with the old card left in viewing card slot contacts downward it will revive and get channel 5 within 48 hrs
