FreeSat, will this cable work?

I asked the electrican working on my house to bury it, not touch the actually dish but just lay it while he worked on two rooms.

U-JIN / TFC - T10 023 T600 - EEB

That's whats on the cable. I've googled around and can't find an answer.
 
You need 1mm copper/copper screen cable. Not sure what the above code refers to.
 
I believe the cable type TFC - 10 is the heavy duty thick inflexible stuff used by cable companies for connecting to the green boxes in the street..
If so it is very high quality cable ..and is the correct impedance so can be used for satellite feeds..
It is however difficult to work with as it doesn't bend easily and you may have difficulty fitting the f connector..
It should work though ..

Thanks, yeah it does seem thick stuff compared to old wire that Sky fitted a long ago. It also looks silver around the edge rather than copper in colour.

The electrician asked what I was connecting to the new TVs in bedroom and study and told him Freesat. He said he could do it for me, came home and discovered he had split the wire going into the two rooms. Even I knew that you can do that.

He reluctantly refitted it without admitting it was wrong. I'm concerned the wire wasn't good enough but you've put my mind at ease now.

I can't guarantee I am correct about the cable ...but it does sound like it could well be the stuff..

If that cable is external cable that Virgin use outdoors and is the one with a gel inside then that should NEVER be used internally as the gel produces extremely toxic fumes when heated or burnt (in fact it is illegal to install indoors). Virgin engineers are only allowed to use that cable from green street boxes to external boxes on the outside of the house.

Can you tell from the cables Ident at the top of the thread if this is indeed the exterior cable use by Virgin ?
I wouldn't want Siren ripping it out if it is'nt the cable in question ?
I'm having second thoughts ..in that exterior cable/cable would also carry a shotgun phone wire..??
..and it way well be that this is cable used by cable co's for interior work and therefore ..still safe to use ...?

It's solid white inside with silver strands. That's all I can say to describe it. Only have the camera on my phone and it doesn't take pictures good detail so close up.

The old wire Sky fitted years ago has five gaps going around the piece thats in the middle, with copper coloured strands around the edge.

If its a solid white centre ..then it cant be filled with foam ...so it looks safe enough ..
I would however have expected 1 solid centre conductor ...and 2 layers of outer screening ..
1 mesh ...and a layer of foil inside that ...
Pity you can't peel back a couple of inches to expose all the layers ..and upload a photo ...

Sounds like a standard solid dielectric type, not the ideal stuff but will do the job.
 
As the Boss says ...sounds like standard cable ...so there will be some losses without the extra screening layer..but since Freesat is broadcast from such a high power 'bird' ...its unlikely to affect the signal ...unless its a ridiculously long cable run..

According to this page it is a feeder cable for up to 1GHz - so hardly high enough spec for satellite cable

Found from a simple google on "TFC - T10" - did no-one else try it.
 
Well RG6 is rated upto 1Ghz and for short runs the decent stuff shouldn't create a problem.
 
It's only a short run, the dish is on the outside wall of the bedroom and study directly under it.

If it's adequate then I won't bring it up with him, he's coming this morning.
