Friendliest linux distro

Not sure what you mean, but any of the distro forums will give you a definitive answer, if someone here doesn't answer you first.
 
There's FreeNAS that may do what you want
 
Windows 8 Storage Spaces = multiple hard drives all seem as the same drive letter - would make it a lot easier to setup my media player and YaDIS.

Thanks. I think I´ll try installing from a CD and have a play. sounds indeed fun. The program support does worry me because I own lots of useful software. Anyhow, I´´ll give it a try.
As for Microsoft Money. I did use it until I discovered Money Manager from moneysoft. Works really well.

Yes that is another interesting tempting aspect.

Well i've got PearLinux on my PC now and i think its brilliant. its just like using my old iMac again :D

Its the first time i've stuck a 64bit system on this PC (Dell Optiplex GX620 3Gb, Pentium D cpu, 4Gb RAM )and it works really well and is a lot faster than Windows XP 32bit, although unfortunately some of my software only works in Windows so i have had to set it up as dual boot with about 30gb dedicated to windows and the other 470gb for linux :D I would have run XP 64bit other than for some unknown reason theres no 64 bit drivers on the Dell website. They were never made.

I can also swap stuff between the two which is useful. Both systems are fine writting to the 1TB secondary drive in the PC.

I'm dual booting OSX 10.6.5 Snow Leopard and Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on my Compaq 6820s (HP) laptop.

I find all the Window$ programms that I want to run ( Photoshop included ) run fine under the WINE system with no problems.

Not interested in Wine, i'm more interested on how you got you Compaq laptop to run OSX.

Running OSX on my PC would be fantastic as i know my way around OSX as much as Windows :D

I got my Compaq to work using info from this thread and adding some kernel extensions for the ATI graphics chip

You need this disk in order to get the Mac "App Store App" so that you can download the Mountain Lion upgrade as it is not available on a DVD.
