Friendly TV is the first Sky channel to use live presenters to broadcast viewer controlled progamming, including interactive quizzes, chat shows, entertainment shows, competitions, and on-screen reviews of the latest console games and applications. Opera Telecom is launching a unique TV channel for Sky Digital viewers, in a joint venture with games developer, Hi2. Friendly TV is the first Sky channel to use live presenters to broadcast viewer controlled progamming, including interactive quizzes, chat shows, entertainment shows, competitions, and on-screen reviews of the latest console games and applications. Viewers will also be able to purchase mobile content and services via the TV channel such as ringtones, screensavers, logos and java games, which have been developed by Opera Telecom and Hi2. Hi2 will co-ordinate all Friendly TV programme scheduling, with Opera Telecom responsible for the delivery of content to viewers and billing using its own international switching infrastructure and billing system. Opera Telecom expects the Friendly TV format will be of interest to other television stations in the UK and also on an international basis, because of the channel’s original programming, combined with the increasing popularity of interactive services and mobile content amongst consumers. Gary Corbett, Managing Director of Opera Telecom, says: "The launch of Friendly TV provides us with a new platform to develop mass market entertainment content that has an interactive element - either SMS or "red button" ". He continues, “The broad range of mobile-related programmes and competitions we are launching on Friendly TV will quickly generate interest amongst viewers and create a loyalty to the channel, providing us with an excellent opportunity to reach a large section of our target audience very easily.” Corbett concludes, ”We are also looking to sell the technology, services and programming we develop for Friendly TV to other UK and international television stations as the level of demand for interactive services and mobile content continues to increase. Our switching infrastructure, billing system and global presence means we would be able to support the launch of Friendly TV in new markets very quickly.” Source: www.friendlytv.com
