BBC One London HD is coming in at around 63% quality (8:30pm), with BER stable at 0.0, while BBC One South on 12168 V fluctuates anywhere between 0–54% and is basically unusable.
The LNB probably isn't the best choice. In hindsight, one of those Inverto Black jobbies might have been a better bet!
The biggest surprise for me, though, has been the Edision PICCO S2 PRO. It arrived yesterday and was cheap as chips at around €35. The instructions are pretty poor and tell you virtually nothing about actually setting the thing up, but the interweb came to the rescue. A Super Blind Search found all the UK channels I need — plus a great many I don't!
One thing I particularly like is how easy it is to check the signal on the channel you're actually watching. A couple of button presses and up come signal level, quality and BER, rather than faffing around deep in the installation menus. I had no idea what BER was before yesterday, but apparently 0.0 is what you want, and that's what I'm getting on BBC London.
This is actually my second receiver, intended for my party cellar. I'm originally from Portsmouth, so ideally I'd have liked BBC One South HD (12168 V / 27500), but that's pretty much a no-go here at the moment. I can live with BBC London though.
What surprised me is just how big the difference is between the two transponders. BBC London on 10818 V / 23000 is perfectly usable, whereas BBC South can barely hang on to a signal.
I'm a happy teddy, to be honest. The little Edision actually seems more stable than the Freesat box in my living room.
I may or may not have a faff around with LNB skew/alignment at some point to see if I can squeeze enough out of 12168 V for BBC South, but for now I'll leave well enough alone!
