Future Satellites and Coverage/Reception Problems

Already are bud! - Soarsat transmitting into Ireland and the area around the north coast of Devon off 9E.

Do you know what sort of speeds they get/are possible via this sort of set up AS? . . . Is this a comparable set up when land lines etc exist or only for more isolated/rural areas without good links?

Well the Soarsat tv is via Ka but its just another data stream. Its not tv via the internet via Ka really.

AFAIK speed depends on what you pay for - if you have a look at tooway.com you can have up to 18Mbps down 6Mbps up

I read on the SoarSat forum section that the satellite uses a special wide bandwidth downlink with a different encryption for each user. Would this mean that speeds won't vary so much at peak times because of usage strain on the network, unlike my current ADSL setup

Cant help you with that - never had a chance to play with a satellite internet sytem (if anyone from tooway is reading this & needs someone to test a new system let me know)
