Just Sharing This German DVB-T Switch to DVB-T2

I received this information (as image) regarding the German DVB-T German DVB-T2.webp

After translation to English it says

DVB-T is switched off on 29.03.2017 and will be replaced by DVB-T2 HD
• DVB-T users need DVB-T2 HD hardware capable from this point onwards, otherwise the image remains black
• With DVB T2 HD, you can receive up to 40 stations in HDTV broadcasting solution using aerial
• Private stations (including Pro 7, RTL and Sat1) will be charged (FreenetTV, about 69 EUR / year)
• All public service broadcasters remain free of charge
• A simple antenna is sufficient to receive the channels

Any idea if the UK is going to switch to DVB-T2 and when?
 
It already is partially as all HD channels and a few SD channels (e.g. Talking Pictures TV) use T2. As to when a complete switchover might happen - no idea.
 
They have to clear the 700MHz band first, so it will be at least June 2020 in the UK.
 
HEVC will be used as a video codec standard, they will broadcast all HD channels in 1080p50. However the commercial stations will become payTV - 5.75€ per month. They call it "freenet" however it is not really free...
 
I think they are just reducing the frequencies instead of changing the modulation unless I have understood it incorrectly.
 
There will be a change to DVB-T2 only here in the UK, but I don't think the timeframe has been fully set yet. In the next five years I would imagine though!

The changeover is largely dictated by the mobile providers and how they are moving into the spectrum parts that have been acquired through the frequency sell off. Additionally UK coastal regions will be affected until completion of the French and possibly the Dutch/Flanders digital upgrades.

Certainly 2020 was mentioned as a cut off date but this was never set in stone.

Just Sharing This - 700Mhz clearance and potential interference to your TV

I have been receiving some texts on a local trade show happening next week which includes talks on the 700MHz cutoff, plus there is wind of a Channel 55 mux starting next year on Crystal Palace, taking the HD channels out of the Group A part of the spectrum that has been the recommended aerial for reception for as long as I have lived here.
