To anyone who loves true dance music the German Viva music channel was one of the best dance music channels transmitted by satellite in the 1990's and I wonder if anyone recorded or knows of anyone else who recorded the German Viva music channel in 1995 onwards onto video or DVD. I'm particularly interested in the 'Club Rotation' and 'Daisy Dee' from that era which I consider to be the best dance music ever.

Please PM me if you have any further information, or alternatively, post a reply on here.

I've a few Viva video tracks recorded - unfortunately in mono!

EDIT: Please reply in English because I am ashamed to say I don't speak german

I remember Club Rotation and may have some very short bits lying around on VHS somewhere but thing much to get excited about. I've been meaning to convert all my old VHS tapes to DVD but it's just finding the time... If I ever do I'll let you know what I find.

Analoguesat, I posted it in the German section because the German Viva music station was only transmitted on a satellite for the German audience so presumed that many of the users might be well aware of Viva and Club Rotation unlike many visitors from the UK.

The UK Viva music channel has nothing to do with the well earned reputation of the German Viva music channel, something which should be considered as passing off in intellectual property rights. I was actually quite surprised, then very disappointed, when I watched the UK Viva channel. Sure the owners of the Viva music channel sold out, but even so, it's like the Elvis rights being sold off to McDonald's.

timo_w2s thank you for your info, whenever you do find the time let me know - preferably before your VHS recorder stops working. I bought myself a Panasonic combined VHS DVD recorder for this purpose but it's not quite as well made as I would have expected and the operating instructions are horrible. As for the Sony, well they used to make good quality equipment but not anymore...nuff said!

I have many videos from that era; from Viva DE to TMF Belgium - nice tracks on there from back then. I actually have a little online page with my video archive _http://www.captainjack.org.uk/?page=allvids If you want any, send me a PM and I'll send some over.

Hi Captain Jack and thank you for your reply. I'm actually very annoyed with myself because back in 1995 when I had the motorised satellite dish fitted, the installers told me to record video using Line 1 or Line 2 if I wanted stereo - yet I still managed to record all in mono!!!

As for music, anything from Viva/Club Rotation in the mid 1990's would be fantastic. I actually purchased several Club Rotation music CD's from Germany in that era though missed out on the very first CD due to high demand.

One thing I did notice was the fact that most dance tracks were made available in Germany several years ahead of their release (if at all) in the UK or anywhere else for that matter.

The dance version released in Germany of the Coyote Ugly soundtrack by LeAnn Rimes - Can't Fight the Moonlight was far faster than the UK version and sadly I can't find the faster version anywhere.

And rather cringworthy was the track released in 1995 in Germany by NSYNC featuring Justin Timberlake on a spaceship entitled 'I Want You Back'. Once again, it was released some two or three years ahead of the rest of the world.

It's a real shame that VIVA sold out because it really was a very good dance channel compared to the modern-day dross provided by current UK channels.

Having a motorised dish I was also able to pick up transmissions in 1995 onwards from the excellent French MCM music channel which played some very unusual stuff, but once again I recorded most video footage in mono.

Well, the mono soundtracks can be easily changed to stereo by replacing them with MP3s of the same tracks. This doesn't help with live performances but then again, which performances were ever truly "live"?

Waking up this old thread as VIVA Deutschland closes down in few days (31.12.2018)

They are now having old logos being used again

Around 60 seconds rotation of different logos:
  1. first logo, translucent colorful
  2. non-translucent colorful 98-05? logo
  3. white, non translucent
  4. new 2011-> logo
As a program they have "VIVA's Last Christmas", whit varied xmas music

The reason for closedown: Viacom decided to make MTV Germany full pledged music channel again, and no point from their point of view to keep Viva running in this day and time. Also they want to make Comedy Central 24h channel. Sad to see old friend like VIVA go, but facing the facts this eventual closedown has been clear for several years already.

Thanks for the heads up. Sad, indeed... Will see if they play any nice 90's Eurodance classics.

Yes, seeing those logos is certainly nostalgic. What's horrible is the picture quality! So over-compressed... I have captures from early 2000's and they look almost DVD quality (especially Viva Polska). Quantity over quality.... :(

I keep getting the answer 'oxymoron' when putting 'classic' in the same sentence as Eurodance.

Try Magic TV on 39e on a Saturday for euro clips. The Voice party very rarely plays them now such as
De Javu - I Can't Stop.

I find MTV Dance and Clubland to have such a basic catalog of videos which are rarely sourced from Europe.

Anyone remember MTV2 POP Channel ODC40 , Future trance & Dream dance!!

Or TMF Mental theo on the road????
