Getting European Ku-band beam of Atlantic Bird 3 in North America ?

Hello, everybody,

My name is Marc, I am living in Montréal, where Atlantic Bird 3 is visible at eight degrees above the horizon. Despite that encouraging news, I was told that it is absolutely vain to hope to get its European beam.

May I ask the community to confirm that focusing techniques (of European beams, for instance) allow providers to reach an absolutely null radiation over “neighbour regions” (like the East Coast) still visible from the satellite?

Thank you!

Marc

Forget it - whilst there may be tiny amounts of signal radiated towards you, its certainly not going to be high enough power to be picked up on any hobby sized dishes.

Satellite antenna designs have improved greatly over the last 15 years or so -some frequencies from Astra 1A could be picked up in South Africa and in South America. (Even then it took huge dishes). However it has to be said that this sort of out of area reception is most unusual

There are people receiving Hotbird European beam in south India using a 16 feet dish. So it may be still possible if you have a large dish.

The Hotbird beam goes reasonably close to India which is why some reception is possible. AB3 isnt firing anywhere near the eastern seaboard of the USA, so the OP has no chance of even marginal fringe reception.

To find out better, is not to ask of the original poster, of the quest and grail of this satellite beam ?
