A friend of mine moved recently to a new apartment building ten story instead of a demolished three story one.
I was interested to see what they have on the roof like antenna and satellite dish. Using Google maps I was surprised to see the old building in images taken in 2015.
But then I noticed that all the cars name plates parked in the street were not showing the numbers deliberately. I think this has something to do with respecting the privacy of the cars owners, but I can imagine that the original images are still on records.
The faces of passersby are clear.
Is this the same tactics used in your country?
 
Yes. And if you have a special reason you can ask for other items on the images to be obscured. I have frequently seen buildings blurred on street view and often airfields cannot be seen properly from the satellite view.
 
Our rear service road was up on the map for a while, but disappeared later. I think a few households on both sides of the road (alley really) weren't happy having their backyards/bedrooms/bathrooms there to be ogled at ( roughly 150 properties all told along the alley).

I wasn't one of them. I liked to see my dish on the map :rolleyes:
 
I think Germany is quite strict with Google Earth and particularly Street View. I was checking on some areas of Berlin recently, as we were looking for an Air B&B apartment and I noticed parts of the street were blurred out. It can work in other ways though, as I was checking out Cadiz (for later this year) and using Street View along by the beach when I noticed a girl sunbathing who'd had her face blurred out but not her boobs....

Google Maps It's the girl on the right...though admittedly her boobs aren't that large..
 
I'd dread to think the amount of man hours that goes in to stitching these images and editing things out, easily taken for granted.
Especially with distractions like that lady on the beach.
 
It's software that scans the images and does the blurring. No human intervention unless requested.
 
I like google's priorties there, mask the face, leave the goods on show... :-rofl2
 
There's another topless lady down the beach, but she's laying down on them so you only get a bit of side-boob, not as fun... :-rofl2
