Just received an email purporting to be from PayPal saying that I had just made a payment to some part of "Groupon" and that if I wanted to query it I needed to log into the "Resolution Centre". Like a fool, I went to try to do that but my Kaspersky AV then flagged it up as a phishing attack.

When I then looked more closely at the email, I could see that it had been sent to my main email a/c and not to the different one that I deliberately use for my PayPal a/c - after a lot of trouble I have managed to report it directly to PayPal, but don't yet know where to forward the email for them to investigate.

FYI, the email header was "Receipt for Your Payment to services@groupon.co.uk" and appeared to come from this email address "service.paypal.co.uk <refund.paypal@vodafone.ie>" - so Be VERY AWARE of anything like this and DO NOT follow-up any links in it!

NB: to find the appropriate website page, google "Paypal phishing" - but be careful about which link you follow because I think that some of those are ALSO phishing links!

If they don't use your name in the email, just "Dear Sir/Madam", or that you paid for something that you know you didn't, it's fake, just forward it to spoof@paypal.com (their scam-reporting email address) and let them deal with it, and of course delete it when you're done... :)

Funny thing about these Paypal phishing emails is that, using Kaspersky Internet Security Suite as my antivirus package and Virginmedia as my ISP (they have very effective spam/phishing email filters), I very very rarely get Paypal, or other, phishing emails (although I have had quite a few "invites" from lovely "ladies" (?) to do "naughty things", but these are usually flagged as spam) – and so I think that "my problem" is that when one does appear then it comes as rather a surprise and can take me off-guard!:(
