GTMedia GTCombo 4:2:2 receiver

.. Put another reminder post into to GTMedia Team last night stephan (16th Feb) to add onto both of our previous requests for more Ka band LO user options and was nice to see a positive answer again and hopefully see it implemented in the not too distant future.
Yes they are only filtering back to work after the Chinese New Year. Quite a few requests in for firmware updates for the various range of receivers they sell so I imagine your request will join an ever growing queue.

a bit off topic - are there any Ka bands we can pick up in the U.K.?

Short answer - Yes. Depends what type of content you want to watch ie: Domestic Tv stations from Europe, news feeds from the UK or Europe, Data transmissions, and to some extent decides what type of Ka lnb to use, user location in the UK plays a part also in the dish size required to obtain satisfactory reception on whatever types of transmissions you choose to view..... reception footprints for Ka signals for the domestic frequencies from say 16E or 7E are usually a bit stronger if you live down in the southern parts of the UK and into Europe. Ka band reception is or can be a far greater expense outlay and is generally more trickier to set up than Ku. Lyngsat / Flysat or other similar web sites give indications for Ka reception in their satellite position page menus.

Odd quirk on the terrestrial side, BBC2 Olympics has no audio (despite retuning).

The only fix is to 'press green' (player change), but what is the actual purpose for the function ?

If a 4.2.2 transmission will not play properly, sometimes switching the player helps..

That’s the “magic” button on that box. Being an Android based unit it can switch from the native player to Android based one (probably designed around VLC) which will output video in 4.2.2. format and any non standard audio. That’s what sets it above all the other offerings from GT Media.

These are terrestrial channels, BBC2 only has no audio until I press green.

mod note: Posts deleted, please see:

Meant to be a link to the GT Media forum main index page. So many asking questions about this unit and so many of the answers are to be found there. Apologies for that. Question shouldn’t have been asked here in the first place.

Hello .
On the GTMedia forum they said that theoretically
with the chip that is in the receiver the 8K could be seen with a 4K TV.
I only have an HD TV.
I tried live; the image is split and not really usable.
I made a recording and played it back with the GTCombo4k, the picture is perfect but ( much better than with the PC)
it is not fluid, but don't forget that my TV is only HD
is only HD, someone with a UHD TV might have a much better result.

It was also mentioned on this forum, possibly further up this thread.

That was me here:
but I was only talking about the recording read by the computer, the novelty is that the recording read by the receiver is much better

ive noticed that when blind scanning 4.8e on this STB - it jumps to almost 50% at the beginning - does it have some kind of spectrum anaylyser built in - so it knows where there are active TP signals to begin scanning?

its one of the fastest blind scan rx's ive known.....

does anyone elses box start crashing after blind scanning 16e ....and then channel surfing ....
ive tried factory reset - but app keeps closing...

ta
i have flashed to the .13 firmware, and the same thing happens.

so after blind scanning - and going to the channels, if you scroll down (looking for feed names) the list, repeatedly, -- it will go BLACK and say app not responding, Close or Info ..

i dont believe it is just mine that is doing this.

can someone else pls confirm - this is on 16e only!

Yes - also have the same problem and is a pain.
Followed on with a message to confirm the problem straight after your post on the GTMedia site page :Y , and also a gripe about GTMedia taking too long to resolve issue's etc.

The Combo boxes seem to be a bit flakey since the latest firware update?

The 16E issue might be a data frequency that it has mistakenly locked as a video signal and you are scrolling past it in the list.
I have seen it before with other Android satellite Poop pourers where it displays the "app stopped working" message on screen then reboots the box.

You could test out a blind scan on a satellite with a lot of data frequencies, see how it copes?

good man, i wondered that - if its one particular channel causing it will pay more attention to it

Thanks, I'm not sure if anyone has tried the two and would be able to answer this.

But would something like an Octagon SF8008 4k + streaming the 422 feed via VLC on an Nvidia Shield Pro 2019 perform better than the GT Combo?
Oh, yes. The GT Combo is very poor (unwatchable) at playing the ABC feeds here in the US. The SF8008 streamed to VLC easily plays them flawlessly. I like the little GT Combo, but at the present time its 4:2:2 support in particular is disappointing.
