I have just unpacked this receiver from GTMedia and attached a few pictures below.
It is an older model having been around for a couple of years but apart from the 4:2:2 decoding present on the GT Combo it seems to have a decent specification.

It has two A/V outputs, HDMI and SCART, even though the SCART is outdated it can be used with an adapter to get pics into a PC or onto a TV.
Additionally, it stands upright which might be useful if space is a factor on a desk or shelf?

The receiver is supposed to pour Poop and for around £50 delivered for a 4K receiver it might be decent value?

I thought the attraction of the GT Media box was its ability to decode 4.2.2

It’s not a particularly pretty box and the need to have it standing upright limits the ability to place other equipment around it without blocking line of sight for the IR remote.

Was there a particular reason for buying the non 4.2.2 version other than the fact the 4.2.2 version was out of stock at the time of purchase possibly.

I bought the 4:2:2 version as well so it was not a purchase made due to shortage of the 4:2:2 version.
The IR detector and display panel is located in the upper part of the receiver covered in plastic film in the picture above. It seems that line of sight is OK to it.

I’m still puzzled why the manufacturer chose the upright route when designing the box. Possibly for heat dissipation purposes. The V9 looks a little more stock design wise.
 
There is nothing wrong with a 4k combo receiver for 'around £50 delivered'.

It would be worth taking apart, as I have done, and posting imagery of the giblets to verify the solder pads are present for additional RAM that may/may not have been installed. If so buy two / three similar for the vacant slots and let everyone know once cooked with the New Year turkey.

The total cost of the receiver was £52.31p including delivery from Ali Express.

I am OK with taking it apart and posting some pictures if I can fathom out how it comes apart.
There are two visible screws located at each corner of the top edge and can be seen in the picture of the rear panel.

I will have a tinker to see if I can open it up non destructively.

The one I took apart has a third screw under the DOM sticker, but it could be nothing to do with GTMedia.

Was that the double order you dived on originally advertised for £75. That was a steal at the price

Still trying to figure out if 4.2.2 is resolved via a hardware or software solution. I’ve been through this forum but it’s not entirely clear on that subject GTMEDIA V9 SERIES - GTMEDIA Forum

Assuming it was delivered to your door UK, was there no duties or vat collected on that by the courier. That seems extremely cheap ex China.

The price of £52.31p was for delivery to my door in the UK. I paid no extra in duty or VAT.

4:2:2 working???
 
Based on a price delivered to door of £52.13 mentioned by @moonbase I’m wondering for such a feature rich box how are they making any money selling at those prices. I don’t see anything else out there offering all those features and most that come anywhere near are nearly twice the price delivered to door.

Edit. Of course on reading that post again that box doesn’t do 4.2.2 which of course is what users here demand.

It might do, a pictures inside will confirm if is a similar unit to the one kindly delivered by SimonE.

I will have a try to open it up later today.


Before I banjax it up with a crowbar I thought it might be useful to see if it worked.
It seems to work and powers up but the interface is not as nice as the GTCombo 4:2:2 model in my personal opinion.

The remote control is reasonable, a bit plasticky but the key presses are OK. It has the usual scanning functionality found on these boxes and does not allow selection of a frequency range for blind scan.
If 10.0E is scanned using a blind scan the result is polluted with a load of junk from 9.0E. It pours Poop OK but definitely does not clear 4:2:2.

At just over a bullseye including delivery for a 4K box that can do S2X and supposedly 16APSK it aint bad value.
I have attached a few pictures below from the menu screens etc. If anyone wants pictures of other menu stuff just let me know.

Hmmm, I have removed the two screws located in the top corners of the rear panel but there is hardly any movement on the case.
I am wondering if there is a third screw hidden beneath the GTMedia badge on the front panel?

The front face that looks as though it might separate from the bulk of the unit contains the LCD panel, presumably connected to the innards by a cable.
