Attention all members of the Chicken Licken Fan Club -
Dr William Ailor, director of the Center for Orbital and Reentry Debris Studies, has been monitoring the satellite's re-entry into the Earth's atmosphere and has, this morning, stated confidently "As far as the sky falling, I don't think so." Rest easy my friends............ :-righton
Latest on n2yo:
UPDATE #9 - As of 9:30 p.m. EDT Sept. 22, 2011, the orbit of UARS was 110 mi by 115 mi (175 km by 185 km). Re-entry is possible sometime during the afternoon or early evening of Sept. 23, Eastern Daylight Time. The satellite will not be passing over North America during that time period. It is still too early to predict the time and location of re-entry with any more certainty, but predictions will become more refined in the next 24 hours.
Gotta love that last bit, "predictions will become more refined in the next 24 hours". As it appears that there is a distinct possibility that the satellite WILL re-enter well within that period I have a sneaky feeling that their predictions will only become more refined when Mrs. Bladdersock of Bromley in Kent phones them to say "There's a lump of your bloody junk right in the middle of my petunias"!!!
Still getting "Servers too busy... Try again later..." on the real time tracking.
PS. Will somebody please disable that little bit of magic that happens every time you mention sky (all lower case)?????
See - it's gone and done it again!!!!!!!
