Hi All
I havent got a hd box yet but was thinking about getting one as i thought some of the hd channels were a stronger signal also i havent got a ftv card yet but was thinking about that also (to receive hd channels)
However having a look at the hd channel transponders on my receiver i was wondering if it was worth buying one as some of them seem quite weak..I have a 1.35 dish and live in Murcia.
I'll start with bbc1
My strongest is bbc1 sd oxford on 10818 82% good signal all day
bbc1 hd on 10847 is 81%

My strongest sd Itv1 is London on 10758 81% good signal all day
Itv1hd on 10936 comes in at 83%
I know if i have a ftv card i could get itv1 central on 11973. This is very strong (similar to sky news)

I get channel 4 on 10714 in the afternoon (although with break up) and after 6pm its clear till about 1am
Ch4 hd on 12606/7 i dont have a signal at all

Now i havent tried to tweak the dish as for months i couldnt get channel 4 but having a play a couple of weeks ago i managed to get ch4 on 10714 with the reception above..and i am a bit loath to mess about with it in case i lose it
My question i suppose would be (before i take the plunge and buy a hd receiver) Should i be able to receive
10847..10936..12606/7 comfortably on a 1.35 dish in my area (should they be stronger signals than the sd transponders, with a bit of tweaking)...I know no one can say for sure but just want to know if other people in the area have got any input..All the above signals were tested on my dreambox 500 on a clear day (not known for a very good tuner) many thanks Richard

No point trying to test strength of S2 transponders with a DVB-S receiver. DVB-S2 has much better error control than DVB-S. Yesterday I aligned an 80cm dish (Black Ultra LNB, Ibersat 4500 receiver) and that could pick up C4 HD fine. With an FTV card it gets C5 HD too.

At home I am using a 1.8m dish for BBC One HD and ITV1 HD. That transponder is more reliable than either 10788 V and 10818 V on my DVB-S2 capable receiver. In your area a 1.35m dish should be fine for that transponder for 24 hour reception. The reason I use 10847 for ITV1 HD is that it doesn't tie up the second tuner if I want to watch BBC One HD and record from ITV1 HD.

Many thanks Huevos
Good news for me re ch4hd then if it can be received on a 80cm dish..In you post you said 'that transponder is more reliable than 10788 and 10818' are you talking about 10847 that is more reliable?...im thinking about buying the openbox s10 as its quite cheap...do you know where i could get a reasonably priced ftv card from?...Ive been quoted 80e for one
Many thanks
Richard

Yes, 10847 V.

80-100€ is what a card costs here (there's no profit in this for the installer). If you don't want to pay that much get it direct from the UK for 25 quid.
