Evening All

got a wee problem with a PC running XP the gets so far then reboots itself listen to the drive its clicking so back to my PC repair days!!! normal means there are bad sectors:eek: so does any 1 know a good NFTS repair tool that can been run from a dos screen as i am struggling to find a free repair tool that does not just fix the 1st faked sector then say to fix the rest please pay as money!! (tight arsed jock see!!!).
any free tools mucho Appreciated :)

Why not boot from the XP cd and run the repair facility, it has worked for me before
 
Can you start in safe mode at all ?

Start up off the XP CD
Select Repair
If there's an admin password it'll ask for it, if not it should go to the C:\ prompt (if not just enter "C:" (no quotes) then enter.
Enter "chkdsk /F /R" (no quotes) and press enter, then let it do it's business and you should be sorted...

Then go out and buy a new hard drive before you lose all your data!!! :D
 
Hello all thanks for the reponces Channel Hopper no it will not start in safe mode just gets to the faked sectors and then reboots same as booting it normaly oh the joys!! i would try the XP disk but i am currently in the middle of the north sea on a Rig and they do not carry XP disk's out here! that why i was hoping some one knew of a free down load software that may fix me problem!! :)

Not that I would suggest it, but if you have broadband there, you may be able to find an XP CD ISO to download. :)
