I was actually looking at bench cutter things. Same as an angle grinder but on a bench... though they seem to be starting at £100-ish for a decent one.

Thanks ched, I am just on my way down to machine mart I will pick one up, nothing at the moment CJ, I have to pop out for a few bits, and will have a few hours this afternoon I will post some pictures up later, I should get it all attached today:).
 
A little update from today. I popped out and got a few spacers and washers for the moving parts, i did not bother with the grinding attachment, it looked ok but i only had one bit to cut and i thought i would put the 20 pound towards a proper one in the future,

I am going to have to grind the top and bottom plate back off and re weld it, i was 2mm out drilling the holes and it hits the other :-dohnot a big problem and easy to sort out :),

Well you know a little about cars pete, it would be like using a track rod end as a wheel bearing.

I'm not going to go on about it Martin but we are talking aircraft quality bearings and you aren't even going to do full revolutions on them. I never saw (in four seasons of racing) a failure where the bearing either separated, seized or the casting broke, even on heavy impact. Granted it was accepted that you gave the suspension rose joints a liberal dose of WD40 before each race but even with the weight of the dish on them, I don't think you will be putting anywhere near the same amount of strain on them as you would under extreme cornering.

However, it's your design and your project and you're at liberty to decide what you feel comfortable with, so I'll say no more..
 
Its nice to have a talk and discuss things pete, and you are all probably correct about the joints, but to me they don't tick any boxes, as I have said before, my main concern is safety,

Once this one is up and running I will make one for my 1.2 and use the joints and see how they go my 1.2 is nearly at ground level,

@ CH thank you, that type of bearing does appeal to me more.

I am not happy with steel to steel / washers, I messed about yesterday and its not right how I would like it, the image below looks like what they are using on that mount and would be easy to make it work.
