Help! BBc & ITV in Central Portugal

My Satellite Setup
SL 55 receiver 80 cm dish
My Location
Castanheira de Pera Portugal
I am trying to get Astra 2D in Central Portugal. I have a SL 55 receiver & 80 cm dish. I seem to be picking up Astra 1 & 2 with 90% Quality but can only receive German channels & BBC world. Also lots of Digital channel home pages but no picture. Any help & advice will be greatly appreciated!!!
 
German and BBC World: your dish is aligned to Astra 1 at 19 east.
UK TV is on Astra 2 at 28 east.
It is unlikely your size dish will be able to pick up Astra 2ds where you are...a bigger dish will be needed.
 
Yes reports are somewhere in the region of 150cm - 180cm. Local knowledge is always best.

Hi Duke - why don't you get in touch with my satellite wiz-man. He lives in the Sintra area here in Portugal and knows a lot about satellites. He can probably help you. To start with I think your dish is too small. Mine is 1.10 or 1.20 in diametre! good luck, Chris :cool:

A 1.2 to 1.5 metre dish is needed for your location. There have been a number of reports of people achieving good results with Astra 2D with these sizes. As Woborny says above, your dish is currently pointing to the wrong satellite.
 
Thanks everyone for your help and advice. It is much appreciated! Guess I couldn't get 28 degrees east because the dish was too small. Will get a larger dish and try again. Many thanks.

You should get quite a few channels off 28E - you only need the big dishes for the Astra 2D channels (the BBC ITV C4 & C5 channels transmitted in the clear).

From your first post the reason you are not getting the UK channels has nothing to do with dish size - the dish is pointing at the wrong set of satellites!
 
Hi!

I got a 1.5 dish but can still only receive Astra 1 with all the german channels on 19 East. Using a compass I get absolutely nothing on 28.2 East with clear line of sight with no obstructions. Methinks it's the german satellite receiver that will only pick up the German channels. If this is the problem can you recommend a good fta sat receiver that I can buy in the UK when I go there next month? Thanks

As far as I know the SL55 is a generic FTA receiver and should work for 28.2ºE FTA channels.

Hi - I live on the Lisbon Coast. My dish for Astra 1 and Astra 2 (2 Lnbs) is 1.20m It works quite well except when it rains.
Can anyone tell me where I can find a complete listing of what I can get with Astra 1? I have got many German channels but i am more interested in French, Swiss and Spanish channels. thank you for any help - mexine
 
Yes, have a look at sites like Flysat, Lyngsat or KingofSat and you will find listings arranged in every possible way eg By Language, by Satellite, by Package (or FTA, as appropriate) etc.
