Help Installing a Dish

Hi everyone.
I would like to introduce to you my satellite dish.

It has been driving me crazy for days now! I live in Cyprus and I am trying to point it on HotBird.

I have to configure a 43.76 Elevation, which as you can see, I did.

As you can see, the building in red, is very helpful, since it has the exact same angle as my dish should be pointed at.
The green bubble, is the exact same point where my dish is. (On the above pictures water tank.)

I have also checked if the base of my dish is level, and it's pretty good. (Excuse the pink tools)

The bad news is that I cannot get a lock. Not even close! And I have one of these! Which should help me get the job easier :) (Excuse the pink again)

Please help me, as you would help someone with no knowledge whatsoever on dish installations.

Your dish is set up way too high. As a rough guide the dish face should be only a few degrees raised from vertical. The reference to 43° elevation would relate to the markings on the mount but don't take that as accurate. I noticed some markings on the mount, though perhaps the relevant other elevation markings are on the other side of the mount. It might help if you could take a photo of the other side of the dish so we can advise further. However, if you drop the dish elevation substantially, connect up your meter to the LNB and set it to Hotbird it would serve as a good starting point.
 
Wish i lived in cyprus...your dish does look tooo high. if anything you should be adjusting it so it looks a little too low as most dishes are 'offset' meaning they point downwards to compensate for the offset, 30 or so degrees i think it is.
 
hi nucleus im trying to upload a pic of my offset dish which has an elevation of about 28 at 13east so you can compare but the site wont let me at the minute but i will keep trying,my dish is nearly vertical iwols
 
If you can't upload, you may need to reduce the file size (qv PixResizer) to achieve our limit.

Yes, looking at the second photo, the dish is set at about 60° elevation. Try adjusting to roughly 44°, see if you can get a signal and then peak it up from there.

That is difference between prime-focus and offset dishes. When you measured elevation angle in your 1st post you did not take in account that your dish has already some angle. So, you are probably looking for satellites some 20-25* above where they are.

Well, I managed to get a lock...somewhere, but when I tell the dreambox to scan for channels it founds only 24. I know that it should be somewhere around the thousands :-ohcrap (see if you can spot the red baloon) :)

That is probably not Hotbird but another bird.
 
Indeed. Wrong Satellite - your "Hotbird" is just a data table with much in common with other "Satellites".

Match the label to the alignment and you'll get your hundreds of hits.

Tell us half a dozen Channels you do get and we'll tell you where your dish is actually pointing!
 
If you can list a few of the channels you have found we may be able to identify which sat you've locked on to and guide you from there.

Seems that you got Eutelsat 7A at 7*E _http://www.lyngsat.com/Eutelsat-7A.html they have frequency you have locked. Try to change your dreambox setup and scan Eutelsat 7A, at least you will know some reference point.

As already mentioned it looks like you are aligned to 7E, check the link for confirmation:

No doubt about that at all.

Dish needs moving a little further to the East ......... the next strong Satellite is 9E then comes 13E.
 
Should I select a specific transponder? So that I'll know that when I get a lock, it will be HotBird for sure?

Also, the fact that I got a lock on this one, mean that I dont have to mess with the Up/Down adjustment again? Just Left/Right?
 
There may be a need to tweak the up/down slightly , but I suspect you'll find Hotbird without needing to do so. Once confirmed on 13E, then optimise as necessary.

If you check the link to Lyngsat given earlier (or check Flysat, KingofSat or any other decent listings site), you can see for yourself which Channels should show up on any given Transponder on any Satellite.
