Help needed with Sky+

I just moved into a house with (what seems to be) a Sky dish fitted on the outside wall.
If I buy a used a Sky + box and a separate Sky viewing card, will I be able to watch all the free-to-air Sky channels without taking out a subscription to Sky?
Also, will the Sky + box take a Freesat card that is advertised by various retailers online?

Hi, assuming the dish is aligned to Astra2, the simplest option would be a freesat receiver or freesat PVR.

To answer your question, a sky receiver will give you 'free-to-air' programming without the need for a card, excluding the odd FTV channel, five, fiver etc.
 
Ay - You won't get the Recording features of Sky+ with just an FSFS Card.

Be in control and go the Freesat route.

I had originally considered a Freesat receiver but it seems to be that it works out much costlier than the sky box plus card.

Thank you, I wasn't aware of this charge!
Do I have to pay this tax even if I do not record anything?
