Help : Nikkai motor & fortec star dish

Hi Guys,
I'm a newbie, and have the same motor as metioned above. Have been fiddling around for 2 days now and have a pole as close to upright as you can get with a 1 metre level.
I have sucesfully aligned to the following with respective strength and quality %'s Hotbird (78%,69%) / Eurobird 9 (75%,68%)/ and Atlanticbird 3 (79%,75%) but when the dish turns to Astra 2 I get a strength of 80% but quality of Zero.
And of course Astra 2 is my main requirement!!! what are the chances !!

Any Ideas
 
Two valid points. Have you checked you have set the motor inclination using the correct markings, and did you set the dish up on 5W?
 
Yes, I have set up the motor based on the latitude setting of 53.9. Of course this is crude scale on the motor mont and have made minor adjustments to get best signal from Atlanticbird3 which I believe is the best/closest to south for where I am.
 
Thankyou, been through all the guides over the last 2 days.
My concern here is that I can got Hotbird, and Eurobird9 without any problems just using USALS, but with Astra 2 getting strong strength 80% but zero quality. After the motor turns thru' to Astra2 I have even tried to adjust all angles on the setup and cannot get any quality readings, and the simple meter shows a reading of 8-10 at a setting of <2db. Of course I then need to go back to AtlanticBird3 and set-up again which all happens pretty straight forwards and Hotbird and Eurobird9 are there with no adjustment needed.
 
Have you checked the West side, beyond 5W?

Sounds as if your not quite tracking the clarke belt due to an alignment/setup issue.

Hotbird and EB9 are strong birds, a possible catch on even a slightly misaligned motor dish.
 
Just for Clarity, I am assuming that in my USALS setup that my lat/lon settings of 53.9/-6.4 should be set-up as 53.9 North 6.4 West.

Maybe I should setup on nilesat101, does anyone know it there is a reasonable signal into Ireland from this. I am using an 80cm dish
 
There is no signal into Ireland from Nilesat 101
 
No I dont think Nilesat will come in on an 80cm dish think you need at least a 140cm. I have the same motor as yourself and I spent a few days at the start doing shuttle runs up my ladder. I have no line of site beyond 08west and 42east. I can get all the sats that my 90cm dish allows between these. My dish is not perfectly setup as even though I was getting pictures on screen the strength and quality were not what they could be. As I was able to view pretty much everything that was available to me anyway I left the dish in its position and tried tinkering with the longtiude figures in USALS. I'm 54.6 N and 5.9W but I get great figures using 3.5W rather than my actual position.

This would not suit those who have clear line of site to all available sats but the Sats I can get are all coming in nice and strong.
Try it and see if it makes a difference

Hey guys, Thank you all for your help.
Her indoors last night got a great last minute deal, so I'm off for a trip to the sun.
TTB1968 I will try your suggestion when I get back.
If all else fails I will remove the motor and fix on 28E for the duration of the World cup as it was for HD football I started out this route.
 
Sry, I should have completed this.
Finally what I did, was to tape a mirror to the centre of the dish and turned it to 28e and looked down the centre line of the lnb to discover that my neigbours ariel post was directly in line.
While I did not think that this was much of an obstruction, by moving the dish location to a different point on the wall, every thing now works fine
