Help please with Wharfedale Hard Disc recorder scart trouble

I have a Warfledale hard disc recorder with two scart sockets.

One is the output, and the other (you've guessed it) the input. The output works fine, and so has the input up until a few months ago.

Sometimes the input connects to my satellite receiver, then sometimes not and I get a blank screen but WITH sound. Often the picture is there but then it suddenly disappears.

I've tried a freeview box, and the same thing happens.

Is there a way I can fiddle with the scart pins on my lead (remove some!!) that will keep the picture stable? Perhaps there is a conflict going on...

Any ideas why this is happening? Thanks in advance.
 
Well yes generally get a better quality scart lead, I have had similar problems with pins shrinking back into the plastic housing. The design of scart connectors is piss poor in my opinion added to which using better quality cable then creates a monsterously wide cable which is completely inflexible and pulls itself out of the TV at inopportune moments. The connectors should be fitted with wire spring clips of a similar type to the old centronix printer cables.
 
So it could be the lead and not the actual connectors in the recorder box? I'll invest in a better scart and see if that's any better.

If you can, go find a SCART lead with a flat ribbon link between the two ends. They enable the box to be pulled out of a system with relative ease, and on a lot of newer set top boxes, the angle at which the cable of a standard SCART lead exits the rear, fouls something else connected to it, usually the RF cabling, or the satellite input.
 
I bought a new 'gold' scart lead and tried it. Worked for a week, then the picture went blank again. So I binned the machine.

If there's one thing that irritates me things that don't work properly. Yeah, yeah, it could have been repaired but I wasn't gonna spend a penny more on it.
 
You've binned a hard disc recorder?

Tell me which bin and I might be up at the weekend!
