Hi i have recently setup my EL-echolink 777 FTA with a 95cm motorized dish with DISEqC 1.2.

My problem is i set the dish up on thor 0.8w, setting the motor up to my latitude which was 50.80 which with the calc came to 39.20 at this point i got 75% signal and tightened every thing up, i then selected another satellite and the dish just goes past the satellite selected and now if i select thor the dish doesn't move but if i select astra 2c the dish moves to thor setting. the dish seems to have a mind of its own, not sure which direction to go in now is it the receiver setup wrong or is it the dish. the box came pre-installed with the satellites i wanted.

WElcome to the forum.

Are you using Diseqc1.2 or USALS?

If you want to make it easy for yourself I suggest you use USALS.

Your receiver does support it.

Im using DISEqC 1.2, so usuals is the way to go i didn't think i had a choice , i did notice it in the settings of the receiver but thought the dish was only DISEqC 1.2.
 
Yes, the motor may be DiSEqC 1.2, but it may also do USALS/DiSEqC1.3/Goto X as well.


I suggest you try the following.
( I cant give exact details for your receiver obviously)


In the Installation/setup menu:-

Select USALS for the 1.0 west satellite.

Enter YOUR latitude and Longitude into the receiver.

(use multimap or something to get correct values)

Tell the receiver to go to the 1W position.

Does it move there?, if so you can do USALS.
( the motor scale should read about 1 degree west)

What motor is it?

The STAB H-H and the Moteck sg2100, and the Technomate TM2100 all do USALS/Goto X.
 
Cheers for that i will give a try, the motor is a satcatcher with DiSEqC 1.2 & goto x function
 
OK, it should work then.

Once you have sent the motor to 1W, you should be able to watch one of the FTA channels,

Try BBC World on 11325H.

If not, your dish/motor needs adjustment outside. Do that, MAXimising the signal and quality on that transponder.
(swivel the motor round the pole for azimuth and swivel the dish up and down for the elevation. Do not change the elevation scale on the motor itself and keep the dish central on the motor arm)

Once that is done, you should be all set up for the other satellites.
Just change them all to USALs.

Thanks Robbo 71 i got it working after following those instructions the only one i couldnt get was astra 2a it was close but when i adjusted to get that i lost hipasat and thor, so not to bad i dont mind losing Astra 2a

If you are getting the other Astra 2 birds at 28E then you will be aligned to 2A also.

You may need to update your transponder list.
On quick inspection, there are a few FTA channels on there.
 
so if i update the transponder list what will it change on the receiver, will it cause me to possible lose any settings i have.

Not knowing your receiver at all, I couldn't possibly say. It would on mine.

To do it safely, you can add the FTA transponders manually, one by one. This will not affect anything else. Then scan the added ones one at a time also.

Hi even after adding the Astra 2a again and scanning for channels i had no joy.

i am still getting hotbird Astra 1c sirus, thor and hispasat.

is this a case of keep making tiny adjustments until they all come or is it likely to be settings in the box. i did try to scan in other satellites but it said no channel found, its making me wonder if i am just lucky hitting those few sats and the dish is still out of line.
 
Try see if you are getting anything on 42E. If your arc is out, the further to the extremes you go the worse it should get.

Also I don't know if you can reach your dish by hand, but if you go to one of the transponders on 2A, and go outside and gently flex the dish whilst looking at the signal quality reading on the receiver, you may be able to make it get a signal. If you can, it means you are not tracking the arc properly.
 
Yes when i flex the dish down slightly i get a good signal and if i make the adjustment for 2a to work i then lose the outer ones
 
Aha, right, you are not tracking the arc properly then.
Never had this problem myself, mine has always worked first time.:-carrot

But it is possible that your arc is off to one side slightly, too shallow, or too steep.

You need to work out which by going to the the extremes either side and checking whether an up or down flex improves or worsens the signal. As far as I know, changing the dish declination changes the steepness of the arc, changing the motor elevation moves the arc up and down. Swiveling the motor round the pole will change the arc's east west positioning.

First thing to make sure, before you start mucking around is that the pole is 100% vertical, if not make it so. Then re-adjust on 1W, to see if that cures it.
 
i shall give that ago tomorrow so what sats should i expect to hit on east and west, but what is strange is that i am hitting the satellites either side of astra2a you think it would naturally hit that on the arc.
 
Have a check on Lyngsat, to see which sats you are in the footprint for.

42E definitely is, there is probably a sat west that sort of angle too.

I imagine that you are getting sats either side because the signal is stronger, but if you have to flex the dish for the sat/transponder you want in between, it can't be on the arc properly.
