Hi!

I wasn't sure where to ask this, but this looks like the best place?

My father in law has a Skymax SX771 ST receiver, which is MPEG 2 compatible. Polish digital terrestrial TV is now using MPEG 4. Is there any way to upgrade the firmware, or otherwise update this receiver, or is it pretty much useless?

Thanks in advance for any help. I have tried the Skymax website, but without any joy.

I know that in France there is a CAM that slides into the CI slot of HD ready TVs that, as well as giving access to encrypted channels with a card, also gives MPEG 4 capability. If the Skymax has a CI slot this may work - however it's not a cheap solution and, even if it does work, it may be better value to put the money to another receiver.

Not familiar with that model, but I think it highly unlikely that MPEG 4 decoding could be facilitated in firmware alone - almost certainly requires more advanced hardware.

Certainly in UK, if you want to upgrade, you bin and buy.

Can't imagine it being different for other Countries!

It might be useable in the UK but if Poland is MPEG 4 for SD and HD then it's stuffed for use over there.
