Help with HH90 motor/dish setup

thanks satelliteman, i not with you.....okay, let's try this. From the receiver, i need to run a cable to the motor (already there), the motor has two points (REC & LNB). So I now hook up to the REC point on the motor. I then run a second cable from the LNB point on the motor back to the switch, but on which point of the switch, port 1 or the point that was previously hooked to the receiver? I would assume you suggesting it goes to the point that was connected to the receiver. If so, then the next step is to run another cable from Port1 on the switch back to the LNB. In total I will now have three cables between my receiver and the dish setup, right? This is not good.....it's a mission to get these cables through...I drilled a hole through the roof tiles and fed the cable through it and then used some silicone sealant to close the hole off. I then used some roof damping sealant over the silicone sealant for a longer lasting seal. I hope I don't have to do this all over again....but that's probably the price one pays when you want to expand all the time...Let me know if I am on the right track with the "proposed wiring".
 
DiSEqC switches should be installed close to the dish, so you would have one cable from receiver to motor, cable from motor to output of DiSEqC switch, cable from input A of the DiSEqC to the LNB, then input B to the C-Band dish.
 
Thanks rolfw....Okay, I will have to re-think this whole setup as the two dishes are located in different positions of the house, ie. on opposite sides of the house. I will live with it as a fixed dish for a while until I decide on how to resume....I am planning on installing a third dish (fixed) so that it can be hooked up to another receiver that I am plaaning to purchase, but this will be in the next few month only....this global economic slowdown is now slowing me down...lol...Let me think about this a little bit and see which way I am going to proceed with this.

If the receiver has a 12v output, you would be able to use that to drive a 12V coaxial relay instead. That would work OK.

Another option may be to use an uncommitted Diseqc1.1 switch, it is something I have always been meaning to try in conjunction with a motor, but Ive never got round to buying one to check if it would work.

thanks for the info......but i'm not sure what you mean. I know the receiver has a 12V out (Female RCA on the rear of the unit). I've always wondered whether this ever gets used. Okay, two things if I may.

1) Can you explain the 12V coax relay thingy to me

2) Can you tell me how to do this with the additional Diseqc1.1 switch.

I know it sounds like i am just aksing questions all the time, but it's surely a learning curve for me and i'm sure for others too.

The learning curve has no end .................. Although it soon gets less steep ! :)
 
In the satellite setup menu, you can add 12v switching, so it would set to off for your Ku band motorised sats and on for your C band satellite, it is simply a voltage controlled switch rather than DiSEqC.
 
and because it doesn't use the existing coaxial cable to control the switch, it won't mess up the Diseqc control signals, which is what can happen when you use a diseqc switch and a motor together.

Hi rolfw, I am aware of the function on the receiver, but how do i get to use this to achieve my goal. I would need to connect it first, but to what ? Sorry if I sound strange, but it's something I am not aware of how to do.
 
On the PDF i linked to, taht switch has

1 coax output

2 coax inputs

1 x rca input for the switching voltage

You would connect the reciever to port C,

the motorised dish to port B

the C band dish to port A.

(I'm assuming portB is connected with Ov on the control input)

Thanks for the info...really useful. Looks like I am in for quote a bit of learning. The idea sounds great, but does it mena that each time I need to change a channel from KU to C or vice versa, I would have to go into the setup menu and enable/disable the 12V out or is there something else that need to be done.
 
My current receiver doesn't have a 12V ouput, but I had a Fortec Star one that did, and as far as I remember the 12V could be set for each satellite selected, similar to what you can do for the LNB type, or Diseqc switch position.

Meaning, once setup, switching would occur automatically via the 12V output and the relay.

Hi Robbo, thanks for the reply. Now that you mention it, I do recall something on one of the setup menu's. I will check this out. Other problem is to locate one of these relays on my side of the world....can't you beam one to me .....lol.....once again, I will keep in touch and update on my progress.
 
You'd probably have to buy one from one of the German satellite shops, same as what I would probably have to do here.
 
If your C-Band dish is pointing at a satellite which you also use for Ku-Band, then set up a new satellite with the C-Band frequencies and make that the 12v applied satellite.:)

Hi rolfw, thanks for the heads up.....but I have already done that after experiencing it over the weekend. At first I was not sure why my C-band signal disappeared, then realised I added the KU for the exact satellite...so, I figured this one out by adding an additional satellite on 68,5E and just edited the name to Pan 7/10 KU so I know which is which.
