wanted to tune into hotbird

Thanks for that I feel like throwing my system away

Why not explain in more detail and you just might get some help.

You need to follow a few simple procedures and it will all come together.

Can you post some photos of how you have it set up?

To be fair, if he had difficulty starting a thread, he may not know how to add attachments...

Tel.. If you reply to part of the thread, instead of the quick reply, you can "go advanced" and it brings up a more complicated window.. dont panic, just a few extra options on here..

use the paperclip icon (attachments) to add photo's.. you can just browse to the approriate file to upload it..

I've added 2 different images so you can see what windows you need to use..
The first is the typing window (with the icons) and the second is the browse window.. though be aware there are size restrictions on the file sizes you can upload..
Once uploaded, go back to the paperclip icon and select "insert all"

I'm not trying to teach you how to suck eggs, just offering a bit of a pointer if you dont yet know..

As satellitman and rolfw suggested, if you can post a few photos and a bit more information about what you have and what you have done so far, you will get a better reply... the more you put in, the more you can get out.. I too was ready to bin my new system a few weeks ago, but the guys on here have been a real help..

Firstly I would just like to thank everyone for taking the time to reply to my post,as suggested will try to give more info about the system I bought
It is a Silvercrest Digital Camping System
Rerceiver
range of frequency 950-2150 Mhz
LNB 22 Khz
DiSEqC Version 1.0, Version1.2,tone burst A/B
Error correction (FEC) 1/2, 2/3, 3/4,5/6, 7/8 auto

The idea was that I could use the system when we go away in our motorhome and i would also like to use a permanent dish when at home, using the receiver from the system.
My problem is that I cannot locate any of the preset satellites on the receiver and the instructions are somewhat vague. It comes with a crude satellite finder which consists of a compass with markings of different satellite positions. Thanks again

Hi,
Firstly you need to understand where the various satellites are located, this may help:-

http://www.satellites.co.uk/satelli...t-motorised-systems/117335-satellite-arc.html

Also if you go to dishpointer.com, enter your address and the sat you want (28E I presume), it will give you an indication of which way to point it (follow the green line).

Also, here is a very nicely done tutorial:-

http://www.satellites.co.uk/satelli...orial-installing-pointing-satellite-dish.html

Here is a list of all the satellites, for reference:-

Okay I have read the tutorial pointed the dish according to map set the angle for hotbird 13E absolutely nothig makes a good frisby though!!!!!
anyway thanks

You can't set the dish up with settings alone, you will need to smoothly adjust it a bit to optimize/get a signal. A bit of a RASTER scan with the dish works for me.
