Hi Guys, We maintain a huge UK satellite network and we use the HDSM USB V3 satellite meters to point the antennas. Horizon changed to Hanwell a few years back and now Hanwell have stopped supporting the meters and repairing them.

Firstly does anyone know of any repair centres that could repair these units as we have a handful of faulty ones?

Secondly what are people using for a replacement at a similar cost? I have looked at the Antiference ASM-01 but ideally i need something programmable and capable of being used on KA-Band systems.

Thanks in advance :Y

What sort of faults are you looking to have repaired, besides the usual battery/input port/drop from height ?

We have a few units saying low voltage and turning off. I don't know if this is a battery fault or not. We used to just send them back for repair. i have tried to google the battery's but the replacements only seem to have one connection to the meter and the current one has two.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The battery - capacity - has always been the USB version weak point, if not kept maintained with overnight charging before a job will always spell trouble.

I'll pull the data from the unit(s) here and see if I have more than one type of battery connector in the battery slot, but from memory the standard is a tiny two pin affair, which I modified to allow an external one with larger capacity.

If i could figure out how to swap the batterys i could possibly repair a few of these units myself. Here are the pictures of the inside of one of our horizon meters and the replacements i have found on line.

Unfortunately that is nothing like the meter I have in the office, or the one on the bench last month.
If you can give me the exact model number (or a picture of the top and label) I'll go check from our suppliers.

If you could put me in contact with a supplier or repair centre that would be great. Just looked and our meters are HD-S2 as shown in the photo.
Many thanks 20210303_220348.webp

If it's of any use to anyone, I have an eval board for the CU1216 DVB-C tuner and the eval software that went with it. It dates from 2005. That chip was used in some of Horizon's stuff.

Try this place for refurbishing the battery packs on the meters......
Code:
 https://www.batteriesplus.co.uk/acatalog/Battery_Pack_Refurbishment.html
They might be able to do the job.

Why, apart from trying to promote sales of brand new meters, would Hanwell pull repair info from all those websites???:confused

Hanwell have pulled the Horizon meter detail, including the last support upgrades completely from the website in the past few weeks.

Sometimes I have been lucky in finding the last upgrades using Wayback, but everything has been removed.

Some very good products from the beginning to finish, end of an era.

Would anyone have an updated satellite list I could download please as the horizon website is no longer active thanks
