Hi all, I have just had a new (80cm) dish installed by a local installer. Originally I had a dish pointed at 13E for my Italian Sky and Tivusat. All good with strength/quality of signal in excess of 80%. The new installation has now resulted in a full, almost 100%, signal from Astra, but a much reduced strength and quality from HB (in fact I have even lost the Mediaset Rete4, Italia1 and Canale 5 in HD). I am not sure if you can give me some advice and if I should go back to the installer, who never said about any loss of strength from either or. I have not paid him yet and I think I should be in the right to have both sats working adequately. Thanks for any advice you can give me.

Do you know if you have 2 separate LNB's or a 6 degree monoblock LNB?
You should have good quality from both satellites, so contact the installer, explaining the problem, and he should quickly resolve the problem, it probably just requires a little adjustment.

Definitely 2LNB’s, in fact he kept the original one I had for Hotbird and a new one for Astra. I will get in touch and ask him to solve it, thank you!

Otherwise: post some pictures of your new setup.

Maybe he just didn't use the right tilt-angle for the LNBs (13E LNB must be lower than 28E LN:cool:.

Difficult to say from that angle but it looks like the installer hasnt taken into account one of the satellites will be a slightly different elevation.

If 19E is the prime focus then 13E should be slightly lower. The lnb's havent been skewed either.

Thank you, I will pass on when he comes back. For my own understanding, what is skewing an LNB?

An lnb needs a little bit of twist on it. Not much - for the birds over western Europe on the 15-30E part of the arc the bottom of the lnb should be set so the connections at the bottom are at "7 o'clock" when you are facing the dish. The skew just helps peak the signal up.

If 13E is the offset lnb then it needs to be dropped about half the width of the lnb to get it into the correct location with respect to the prime lnb.

From what I can see, 19.2 seems to be the prime position, with signal strength/quality very high. Thanks again for your advice, I will pass on with diplomacy when the installer shows up.

Ah yes, it was 19E and not 28E as I wrote. :( Sorry.
And "LN:cool:" should be "LNB )". I hate these automatic changes, when not using an 'operator sign'!

On topic:
It even looks like BOTH LNBs are on one side of the arm, instead of one left and one right of the arm.
If it is a normal Triax or SAB multifeedrail, it can be altered as the LNB-holders can be turned frontside back.

Rail tilt should be about 12.5 degrees towards the horizontal at east sussex,
and both LNBs shoud have about -7 degrees skew (minus = counterclockwise, when looking from dish to satellite) (pre-skew taken into account).

In my opinión lnb's are placed the other way round. 13 should be in central position and 19,2 in the right hand side looking the dish from behind. I have always had better performance this way. But It should work also this way with some adjustment.
