How much does it cost to lease a channel?

As title,How much does it cost to lease a channel on one of the major sats (say 28e or 13e)? assuming a reasonable bandwith/picture quality.Or is this a trade secret and we will never know?

Flicking around there are so many channels that must only have a very few (if any) viewers, how on earth do they make money?
 
Without programming costs you are probably looking in the region of somewhere between 200,000 and half a million quid a year.

Exact figures are hard to come by but this figure has been arrived at by reasonable guesswork in the past over on the DS forum.
 
Of course, quite a few don't make any money at all, ever, and soon become distant memories.

Rapture TV was a prime example of a failed channel - especially as to this day they continue to blame their demise not on their own viability but upon big brother aspects such as domination of the known universe by BSkyB and all its cohorts.

The Rapture MD posts over on DS & they are quite amusing when he starts going on about how unfair Sky was to him.

My farther done some work for rapture tv. he was improving the quality of picture, every time we looked at it on sky they never where using it so the quality was still bad.

Easiest way is to check on one of the transponder sale sites, where offers of bandwidth on many satellites are up for grabs.

It is a fluid system however, and prices go up and down faster than a night club dancer on a pole, but the main criteria of source and demand meeting at the same time will ensure that confirmed sales are often at at a similar price. What does make a difference is the length of leasing, a guarantee of five years will of course be far cheaper overall than taking a segment for a month.

Why not ask a broker of the services anyway ? Plenty of them about.
