Sorry I don't live on forums.

I have a dreambox 7000s and several 500's

Again I will repeat you do not need any softcam but SCAM. You do not need a config file. It works on both card readers.

Obviously I do not know your setup but would suggest a clean install of the latest Gemini and download the latest offering of SCAM.

You could try removing your CI reader and trying yet again with your present set up.
Hey Mate,

Thanks for the info.... I have installed the latest Gemini 4.4.0 and downloaded SCAM from the blue panel, Gemini addons... it didn't work...

I have spent days searching the web to try and find a solution, but not getting very far... Can you confirm you are using Gemini 4.4.0 also? I assume you downloaded your scam from the same source I did? If so, can you suggest where I am going wrong? What version of scam are you using? Perhaps I downloaded an old/incompatible version?

I have removed the CAM from the CI slot, so there is no interference from that source.

Any further help is so very much appreciated. Thanks!

CCcam 2.0.9 is the prefered emu. Try it if you haven't done this already.
Once someone discovered that he needs to enter the PIN number of the card in order to make it work. Check this point as well. (See post #8)

HB13DISH,

I wish it were that easy to walk into a service provider's office and ask "hey man, can you tell me the pin number of your smartcard because I want to use it in a non-approved receiver?":-rofl2

So - besides the glaringly obvious..... I have to soldier on and do it the hard way...:confused

I have cccam209/newcs160 EMU running. Can you tell me what lines you have in your ccam that work with your cards? I have also tried modifiying newcs.xml but can't seem to make it work.

I can post up my config files if that helps...?

Hi adamrick,
With my cards, I didn't need any lines. Just selected CCcam and the channels open.
I don't see why you can't ask the service provider what is the PIN number for their cards or if they use it. Anyway it could be something as simple as 1234. See this thread

Hi HB13DISH,

Can you post your cccam.cfg file here (or PM it to me) so I can see where I am going wrong in my cccam?

As mentioned, I don't use cccam.cfg at all.
Suggest to delete all the cams that you have, then install CCcam 2.0.9 from the blue button.
Select one of the channels from the package, from blue button select CCcam 2.0.9, move curser down to start the emu and see what happens.
You might also consider shutting down the box if nothing happens.
There is a remote possibility that the Dreambox can't open this package so focus on this as well.
At any rate, you mentioned before that you can open channels using a suitable CI CAM.
If you have any other official smartcard, you can try it in the card reader and see if you have any luck.

guys,
he's using a Irdeto2 card from multichoice africa.

I know CCcam can read Irdeto2 cards from CanaalDigitaal, but I'm not sure if the provider id's from multichoice africa will be recognized by CCcam, or any other softcam for that matter.

Hi JTA,

Many thanks for the input... Can you explain a bit more why you think my card will not work in the Dreambox? It does work well with the Irdeto CI module, so why not in the internal card reader slots...?

Can you suggest any other method for me to try? All info and help is greatly appreciated.

Does it see your card? Have you used a web browser to check?

Code:
http://dreamboxIP:16001

replacing dreamboxIP with the IP address of your Dreambox. This requires CCcam to be running.

I've read befor that not all cards work on softcams, this would mean that most softcams are written in function of a number of (mostly European) cards.
I think it has to do with the card-server portion of the softcam. A few years ago, the standard "cardserver" which came with the newcamd softcam was unable to read SKY NDS cards. Until someone released a "patched" version of this cardserver which could read those NDS cards.
Now I'm not a specialist in these matters, but it could be an answer to your question why your dreambox is unable to read your card.

Do as mhku suggested : put the card in, chip facing down, select CCcam as default emu (no cardserver, is integrated in CCcam), reboot to be sure, then query CCcam about it's cards.

if it's listed, it should work. If not, then you can always use your Irdeto CAM inserted into the dreambox (7000S). Of course, this way you won't be able to share that card with your other 500's......

Questions:
1 - Did you order the card in Viaccess or Irdeto and which type do you have now?
2 - Which receiver do you have. Is it a 7000S as mhku asked (since you posted in the 7000S section)
3 - Which CAM do you have. Attach a photo if possible or just describe.
4 - What is the channel frequency that you are using? There are four frequencies and you have to set it on the correct frequency.

You will need an emulator that supports Mediaguard 2 and Videoguard for Malaysia

Cryptoworks Mediaguard 1 if you are in Indonesia

Best to get the Astro smart card. :-doh

Hi all..

adamrick.... hope this helps..... I´m a MultiChoice Africa user and have been trying to get some help on using my 7000S with no luck. From what I understand you´re just trying to use the card on a different receiver (7000s).. well, I don´t know how your card was set up, but here (Angola) all the cards are pre-set with a single receiver.... witch meens... a card only works with that receiver "only"... :-Nooo:-Nooo:-Nooono other receiver will be able to open that card.

Unless you have access to the MChoice database and get the numbers from them, there's no way we can make it work. I hope there was another way.. I would like to know also.

Regards
Paul

I use scam with the PLi Jade image.

No config files needed, the Irdeto and Viaccess cards are recognised automatically.

The only problem has been the BBC Prime card, that stopped working after a couple of months. Something to do with the emu not handling the updating of the validity.

Hi Paul,

The card matching that MCA refers to is actually a ruse by MCA. I know of several MCA users who use their smartcards in a number of different receivers, and it works fine. A local provider in the UAE also uses the same PVR receivers as MCA (both are made by the same manufacturer in SA) and they claim their cards are 'matched' to the receiver. I have successfully inserted my legitimate UAE card into other 'non standard' receivers and have had no problems at all. Don't believe all you are told from the providers...

I currently use a DM7000 with a CI module and my active MCA smartcard works with no problems at all.

What I am trying to do is use the internal slots of the DM7000 to read the card and allow autoroll updates automatically... THAT is the million dollar bug/issue/problem that I need to solve....

Any suggestions??

Hello adamrick,

I am not sure from your post if your receiver is able to read the card or not.
But I needed the receiver to read a different Seca card and it turned out that one needs to shutdown the box, insert the card with the chip facing down, switch on and it worked for me.
No idea about the autoroll, but if the CI CAM can do, then I see no reason why the card readers won't.
This might be of interest:

My Irdeto card from ADD seems to carry on working in the card slot of my 7000s,
but I had trouble with the Viaccess card for BBC Prime. That stopped working after almost 3 month........ not updating correctly.

I did not find a way to cure the problem in the card slot.

However I bought a CA card for Al Jezeerah Sport +.
A strange beast, it decrypts the sport without a smartcard, just based on a firmware update.
It is a kind of universal CA accepting several different types of smart card, controlled by a menu.
I selected the Viacess option and then put in my BBC Prime card, lo and behold it updated and worked.

Might be worth checking out, based on your viewing habits. The SP CA was $60, which included a year's subscription,
as opposed to a dedicated Viaccess CA for a lot more money.

Not quite your scenario, but my give you some ideas?

Adamrick!

I feel your pain, you have the same problem that I have. I am in South Africa, and have a legitimate MCA Card Version 5 Zeta, which I would also like to use in the my Dreambox 500 S as opposed to the using it in the provided MCA Decoder.

I use CCcam 2.1.0. Without some changes to the cccam.cfg file, nothing happened, I then edited the cfg file and added the same info that you had at the beginning of this thread.

Cccam showed that it was decrypting the card as in the letter showing the encryption "I" turned green, but there was no picture on my TV Screen.

I have since given up. If anyone has any solution please let me know!

MCA says that it has married the smartcard to the decoder.

And no you cannot call them and ask them for a PIN number, they do not want you to use their smartcards on any other decoder rather than their own.
