I use a Dlink DNS320 nas for storage. It has two 500gb drives installed ,Raid 1 configered. I started to transfer a 37GB photos folder to a 1tb wd passport. It was going to take 11 hours. That seems a bit excesive.I have been looking around, transfer speeds should be about. Write 23MB/s. Read 29MBs. How do I measure the transfer speed of my Nas.
I am using W7 64bit, i5 intel processer.

I got it wrong. The file is 70gb.just tried it again.
computer to router wireless 8 hours.computer to router via lan cable.2.45 hours.
Better but would still like to know how to measure speed.
Router is a Netgear WGR614. v9

..not that difficult: transfer_speed = volume_of_data/time ;) Transfer of a folder with many files (pictures) will take longer than the same data volume in a single file.

Maybe small program named NetWorx can help to measure download and upload speed of your PC. Took a screenshot of it with your message in the background.

Thank you for your replies.I found the ideal program it's called NAS performance tester 1.4.
It runs a 400MB file five times. My numbers are write 10.62 av. read 11.42 av.Not very good.

No satellite stuff for the moment (aside from a 43cm minidish that was on the house already), Samsung SyncMaster T27B550 Smart TV & Monitor, and a few computers...

For fast NAS access, you need to have Gigabit (1000Mbit) ethernet, 100Mbit is okay, but slow, and forget wireless as it's susceptible to all kinds of problems that it cannot transfer at it's rated speed (e.g. 54Mbit, 108Mbit, etc.), you don't mention what it is you're using, but to get those slow speeds I'd say you're not using gigabit ethernet, or your cables aren't fully wired to take advantage of it... :)
