How to stream from Dreambox to Internet

Hi,

I was wondering what would be the minimum for recoding the stream with h264/mp3?

I get the thing to work with DIV3 coding but the picture is not that good (even on my server computer). However when I try to do it with h264 codec - I do not get any picture or at best I get now and that pixelation in the windows and some sound. I assume this is because of my insufficient computer performance?

I have: Celeron 2.4 GHz, 1 GB RAM, ASUS P4V88 motherboard and 256 MB Geforce 6200 graphic card, DSL: DL=3456 kbit/s and UL=448kBit/s

Thanks for the info.

Pavana

You're trying to take an SD stream from a Dreambox and encode it to H264? Are you using CoreAVC codec? I think your PC will not be up to the job.

And welcome to the forum :)

Hi mhku,

what is CodeAVC codec (I installed K-lite codec pack).

What would be a minimal configuration to enable live encoding with h264?

Thanks,

Pavana

It's a codec- google it. What software are you using?

I am using WinXP SP2, VLC 086f, Dreambox 015, Firefox 2 and k-lite codec pack. I am not very good with Linux so I did not even try it.

Nothing else is running on the system except for the necessary files.

What bugs me is that when I try to transcode with my laptop (Thinkpad x22 with 800 MHz processor) - I get the same kind of problems but with the laptop I do get transcoding with H264 codec although the picture pixels a lot and it is not good for streaming ins Internet.

Regards,

Pavana

I did post ages ago with a title something like "Is your PC up to HD?" or similar and it had a link to some tests (I did a quick search and couldn't find it).

I tried it on a P4 2.8ghz 2gb RAM and it couldn't do it.

Playing hi-def and transcoding to H.264 aren't exactly the same (I don't think) but this link may be helpful:

CoreAVC = _http://www.coreavc.com/

Hardware requirements (minimum): _http://www.coreavc.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=28&Itemid=1

I have Vista and could not run dreamView.

I actually cant register comctl32.ocs as I get: "The module COMCTL32.OCX" was loaded but the call to DllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x8002801c.

Anybody got across this error ?

To sort this issue with vista add the missing OCX file into system32 then open COMMAND with ADMIN previlages. and write this command:

regsvr32 missingfilename.OCX

then RETURN

Although I cannot yet get the stream to work as yet

Did someone say that I could watch HD MPEG4 channel in the computer using certain codec could you please elaborate a little thanks appreciated

Great guide.... but I have a question... shouldn't port 8080 be forwarded to the PC rather than the DB?

Please advise
Thanks!

I don't understand the guide either.. how do I have to setup the port settings.. I installed DreamView on a local PC and it fished up the stream of my dreambox fine.. I configured the settings for the server output and started it but how can I pick up the stream over the I-Net now? does Dreamview scales down the stream directly on the dreambox so that I can pick up the down scaled stream from the dreambox or do I have to make a port forwarding to the local pc and pick up the down scaled stream from the local pc. I don't understand why I have to portforward the port 8080 to my dreambox.. Can anyone help me ?

In fact, I am pretty sure that there is a mistake in the guide.
The mistake consists in the port forwarding setting in the router.
In fact, the router should forward port 8080 (or whatever port you decide) to the PC, NOT to the dreambox as indicated in the guide.
The stream in fact goes in full resolution from the Dreambox to the PC over your local LAN, and then the PC re encodes it to a lower resolution so as to be capable of streaming it across the internet.

The system works perfectly over ANY internet connection, as long as you edit the parameters accordingly.
Of course, the lower the resolution the easier it will be to receive it anywhere, but of course also the lower the quality.

Ciao!

@ "Trizio"
thanks, that's what I thougt too. You have to portforward to you local PC like:

:sout=#transcode{vcodec=mp1v,vb=384,scale=0.75,acodec=mp3,ab=64,channels=1}:duplicate{dst=display,dst=std{access=http,mux=ts,dst=192.168.178.20:1234}}

it works fine :-)

localPC=192.168.178.20
Port:1234

How about if i use a switch with a brand new IP from the NET provider, instead of a router?!Thanx...

hi all
ok try this this

download firefox browser and vlc

when installing vlc change the directory where the file should be installed
to this
C:\vlc\vlc.exe --extraintf=http
copy and paste best.

when installed click on preferences then input the change the server port to
8080 then click save.

next step is to normally install firefox

in the browser address wirte
http:then ur dreambox ip then go
this way works only with your own network, meaning that your dreambox should be connected to the same network your computer connected to.i dont know why, i wish somebody find out a way to connect throught this way from another network. when you click go the browser will ask you for a name and a password
the name is: root
password is: dreambox
now you should be connected to your dream
hit any channel then on the top write you will see vlc
click on it
then it will ask you what program you want to run to start the stream
choose vlc, hit my computer then c: then you open the folder vlc the choose the vlc.exe
now you should be able to watch the channel you already choose.
enjoy and pardon my english:)

hope it will work for you guys

i wish somebody find out why this metod cant connect you from another network.

it worked for me but only withen my netwrork.
got it from another forum.

good luck
