How to test Satellite Installation for certification?

I heard that you need a field strength meter to check out that your installation is according to standards. Any idea what kind or what spec of Field Strength Meter is needed to certify Satellite Installation. Thank you.

i have never heard of this.
no one in italy leave anything in writing.
when you install a system it is working it is done.

if a 90 mile an hour wind or lightning hits the dish and it is out of alignment it is not your fault.
if a fixed system is installed and the signal is maxed out and it is taped for water proof the system its done.

i am still using an analog meter to install digital systems.
it has a spectrum and i have a list of all the frequencies on all the satellites.
i have done spanish tv systems from 30 west to turksat 42 east as well as everything in the middle.

For certification, I would haver thought at least a spectrum analyser meter capable of reading the standard measurements.
 
A field strength meter measures radiation from transmitters so is absolutely nothing to do with satellite reception.
 
Although, some TV/Satellite meters can be referred to as field strength meters; my old profelec was called a satellite field strength analyser.
 
You don't need to give a written paper test results even if its a multi dwelling installation? can you guys give me the brand and model you use? with regards to the spec of the field strength meter, what frequency range and what db range should it be able to measure from the outlet of the multiswitch? Thanks.
 
I believe you only need to give certification of 10% of total points for MDU's [here anyway]. You need to give an indication of off-air signals, launch levels and measurements at outlets, up to 2GHz.

hello,
if you are going to do only satellites all meters should have a range of 950 mhz to 2150 mhz.
13 v dc to 18 v dc for horz and vert.
22 khz for upper and lower band
and disec tone generator.
most will give a picture on channels in the clear and tell the level of each transponder.
some will tell the name of the signal and give a ber level.

some meters are less than 1000 euro. some good ones run around 600 euro.
upper end meters run 2000 euro.
but you will not need that.
how many systems are you planing to put in??

actually, this is our first job and not really sure if we are going to get a second. Our first system is a 4 dish sat system 3 ku band 1 c band with around 112 outlets. I'm having trouble justifying that the consultant is asking too much by asking for certification of signal levels of all outlets.
 
As mentioned [as a general rule], record the IF levels for around 10% of outlets including off-air and launch levels. Input the data onto an appropriate software program or google satellite system commissioning completion certificate.
 
when you say IF levels, these are in dB right? and what are off-air and launch levels? If I understand correctly, the launch level is the dB measured at the immediate output of the Launch Amplifier?
 
Yes, intermediate frequencies. These are measured in dBuV.

Is there any brand of field strength you guys can recommend. Im currently looking at Promax, but I dont know which model to get. There's also this Channel Vision's M-2000, is this enough to get signal strength in dB at the user outlet? Thanks.

wow 112 outlets.
if you have never done a system like this the possibility of doing one is not good.
you need a 16 input multiswitch and 5 x 24 output multiswitch

how many rooms per floor?
if there was 5 floors then in theory you would need 16 lines running from one group of multiswitch for the first 24 outlets.
then 16 lines would run the next floor in cascade. then 16 lines to the next multiswitch.

every room would have a free to air receiver that would generate the proper tone to switch from sat A,sat B,sat C and sat D.
Somewhere in the system the 16 lines may need to have 16 small amps.this is to insure that the if level on the top floor is enough or close to the one on the bottom floor.
if anyone make a mistake on any of the 16 lines running from the satellites to the mulitswitch then there will be problems.
depending on dish size the system may cost the hotel 30,000 euro to wire and set up.

I don't wish to dampen enthusiasm as I too find it interesting, but isn't a 112 outlet system somewhat beyond the scope and remit of a hobby Forum?

i have seen some posts here of the guy from korea that had 40 dishes on and arround his house.
no problem i am always glad to give them some tips.
