How would I split an outdoor aerial?

My Satellite Setup
We have a Sky box down in the front room using the sky box sat, and I have a tv which is 4 floors up from the main tv (with the sat)

Hey sorry if this is the wrong place, but we have a satellite and also a standard aerial, we use the sat mostly and standard sometimes. The standard one isn't that far from my window, just to the right of it I was wondering is it possible to split the outdoor cable so I can use it in my room with my tv, using one of them aerial boxes that screw on the wall but still use the aerial downstairs without effecting both. How would this be done? Thanks.
 
If it's just the terrestrial TV then, provided your signal is strong enough, a simple T-splitter will do the job. If it's not strong enough then an amplified splitter , as closely to the aerial as possible, might be necessary.

Can you get to the cable safely ?

Does it have a power supply below driving something above your room / apartment (masthead amplifier) ?

Don't think so. just see one cable running down to the wall. Just looked now and I was wrong it's just the sat dish that's by my window, is it still possible to split into my room. Don't think it has any power driving it (Sky Dish)
 
If it is a satellite cable, you can't split that. You'd need to fit a dual or quad LNB to run a separate cable to your location and then you'd need a satellite receiver

Oh ok, so if we get a dual LNB we can then run 2 cables from the sat, one to my room one to the front room? Thanks,
 
Yes a quad LNB and fresh cable to your room will do the trick but you will of course need a satellite receiver as well
 
OK, although not relevant now, as your cable is a satellite feed, just for future reference, if you are splitting an aerial cable externally, you need to use a masthead splitter/combiner, most of them will pass 12v on one of the output legs in the event you have a masthead amplifier already. If the signal isn't strong enough for a passive splitter, then you can fit a two way masthead amplifier on the wall and power from either of the aerial points. Masthead products are in rain proof cases and can also be used on a wall, having mounting holes for screws.

As said above, to add a satellite feed to another room, splitting isn't possible, you will need to fit a quad or twin LNB (if a sky minidish, it will be a quad, as they no longer make twin LNBs for them). If you have a TV source in the room where the Sky box is, you can loop the aerial feed into the Sky box and take a cable from RF2 up to your room, that will then give you terrestrial TV plus whatever is being watched on the Sky digibox.
