Humax Foxsat-HDR problems

I am really having problems with this machine. In the last week it has gone berserk. It wasn't to bad, but tonight the thing seems to have a mind of its own. We were forced to have one as I wanted to record and there was very little info for us that cannot get Freeview. I certainly wouldn't pay for Sky as I pay already for my BBC and ITV in my license. I have no qualms about that, but wouldn't give any more profits to the Murdoch empire. Anyway we are stuck with this thing. I cannot select a station using the guide and the selector is scrolling like mad up and down the channels. It is the same with the sound, press it and it goes all the way down and put it up, it goes all the way up. Trying to input a time is a nightmare. I tried resetting to the factory settings and it didn't resolve it. Is there a way to re-program it.

I have to be honest its not the best system in the world, it is limiting as far as taking recording off it. Money is an issue as we have to move and I am on benefits, living on 200mg of morphine a day. So the TV is important to me
 
I suspect you have a faulty box - either due to a glitch that a Factory Reset may resolve or a Warranty issue - Have you tried a Factory Reset?

I have both the Foxsat HDR and a Foxsat and both work perfectly - and they have a widespread reputation for quality.
 
Thanks for your reply. Yes I did the Factory reset, but I have just resolved the problem. It was so simple and stupid, it was the sat cables. They were lose!! I can't believe how stupid I am not to have checked such a simple thing. Anyway all sorted

I don't like the thing. I can keep the programs on a disk. All the programs seem to be HD or over 4GB. Which is totally frustrating

Is this because you want to download off the hard disc?

HD downloads to an external device are not allowed as part of the specification agreement for HD recording. The 4GB limit is a FAT32 limit. It's not just the Foxsat HDR that suffers from these limits.

Indeed. I really don't understand the point as the limitation is a an obvious and inevitable one.

I find this kit absolutely excellent in every relevant way. Multi-sat function is a bonus, not a detriment.
 
It was the first one that sprang to mind, though if it was finally fixed then OK. Are the missed recordings also an ex-issue ?
 
There's nothing in the TW post about any missed recordings. Nor in the OP's that I can see.

I believe that some of the clunkiness in the switchover between Freesat and non-Freesat mode was caused by Freesats very tight control over the specifocation of receivers that are allowed to carry the Freesat logo.
 
I'm thinking back to issues raised on Foxsat / Foxsat HDR use in general.
 
Mmm, I can't remember them I'm afraid. There certainly doesn't seem to a problem at the moment.

In fact, if you have two feeds it's remarkably flexible. You can record two programmes at once and you still have a limited number of channels left that can be viewed at the same time. I also haven't suffered any missed recordings - that haven't been my own fault that is..
