Good evening.
I recently bought the Humax foxat hdr freesat box and as anyone would, have had a play around with it, read the instructions etc. But, seem to be having a few problems and cant find the awnswers easily! Sorry if same questions have been asked before.

First of all, I wanted to record a program on BBCHD, torchwood, and selected the option to record the whole series, however the box had only recorded just 1 out of 5. I left the box in standby, which the user manual said i could do, and no other recordings recorded. So the next evening i left the box on, everything else recorded apart from torchwood! Seems quite strange.

Another thing, when recording 1 channel, i try to switch around to watch another, but half if not most channels are suddenly unavailable.

Last thing, I am not able to find ITVHD, i have seen somewhere on here and other sites that its not available on a setting or area, but it does not make much sense to me!

You have supplied the Box with two separate feeds from the LNB/Dish ..........?

Missing half (You'll find it is actually three quarters) of the Channels suggests to me you might be sharing a feed between the two tuners.

As for ITV HD, this is a Red Button Service so does not appear in your EPG (ie No Channel Number). When you are tuned to 103, if the next prog is in HD, you'll get a Red Button prompt.

Recordings? It doesn't seem to be recognising the Series Link flag - probably a one-off glitch and more likely the fault of Auntie than of the Box.
 
If you have actually got two feeds from a twin/quad LNB, also make sure that the signal level on each is good.
 
From the lead from the dish, there are two bits, which i put into the back of the box, is this not what is meant with two separate feeds?

How many leads have you got coming from the dish?

What do you mean by two bits?

Do you mean two bits of cable from one, i.e two bits of cable joined to one somehow?

If that is the case, then that is your problem. Get a quad LNB and run another cable.

I'm with you here, Robbo. The symptoms are entirely consistent with this being a single feed split somehow/somewhere.

For the benefit of metromuppet, the Channels are split into four roughly equal parcels:

Horizontally Polarised, Low Band
Horizontally Polarised, High Band
Vertically Polarised, Low Band
Vertically Polarised, High Band

Band and Polarity switching signals are sent by the Tuner to the LNB.

Every Tuner requires a separately controllable LNB device, which can either be an entirely separate LNB or, more usually, a multi-output LNB.

It is possible to supply both Tuners with the same feed, but then switching conflicts occur and in this case the Recorder Tuner takes precedence over telling the LNB which Polarity and Band to select. The second Tuner has to lump it and can only see other Channels of the same Polarity and Band as the Recorder Tuner. Which is why you are missing three-quarters of the available Channels.
 
On a closer look at the lead, it seems there are two wires but stuck together, seperating at the end, i asume i still need this quad LNB cable? Are they easy to get hold of and set up etc?

Do you mean the wf65 'shotgun cable'?

see below,

if so, then you have two feeds. Each cable is quite thin, but seen it used for 25m with good results.

Just check that both go to the LNB OK. Swap them over to make sure both work.

Indeed Robbo could be correct but equally your description could apply to a jointed cable.......... one into two, which would react very much as you describe. I think if you took a photograph of what you are trying to describe it would be more beneficial
