Hungary Advice Please

Hello All,

I'm a British guy living in Hungary with my Hungarian GF. We have always received our TV through a cable provider that had BBC Entertainment as part of their service. The only English channels I could watch were BBC Entertianment, BBC World News and CNN News. I didn't mind this, as I don't really watch much TV, and I was able to watch the EPL via the Digisport channel. However now the cable company has changed the offer, and we have now lost BBC Entertainment, so I'm going to dump them as I'm not paying 7000Ft per month if I can't get at least one BBC channel. I have now decided to make a switch over to satellite and have been reading the forums over the last few months to find a solution. I have already bought a Pace 2600 reciever (Just for Testing Purposes, it also has a basic sky card) I'' be testing some DVB-S / DVB-S2 Cards with dual channel and CAM / CI interfaces, and have already a Invacom QDF-31 LNB with C120 Feed horn. I have 100 metres of HD100 cable.

My problem.

I want to get some British Channels, doesn't have to be all of them and I need to watch EPL games.
She needs to watch her Hungarian channels, The travel channel, TV Paprika, Zone club ect, which I believe are on a different satellite to Astra.

I think I need a large dish, but can it be motorised to point to her satellite when needed, or can I have 2 different LNBs pointing at the same dish, or maybe 2 dishes, one large for Astra2d and one small ? for hotbird, eurobird ect?

What would you advice ?

Firstly, do the Hungarian channels have to come from satellite? Are they not available from the ordinary aerial for the TV directly?

If you're willing to do without the normal BBC, ITV, C4 and C5 channels, i.e. pay for $ly channels, then you can get away with a reasonable size dish that won't cost the earth. If you want some of those FTA (free to air) channels then you will need a much, much larger dish for the ones which are on the 2D satellite. There are some which are on the new 1N satellite and there are, sadly, no reports of these being received that far east.

You should also bear in mind, if you decide to go the large dish route, that the situation will probably get worse in a few years for the FTA channels as newer satellites with evem more restrictive beam patterns are launched.

I can get 5 channels over DVB-T M1,M2, Duna TV, RTL Club and TV2 these are the main channels, but she would also like some extra which are on Satellite.

I can do without BBC ITV ect, but I thought if I'm going down the dish path, I might as well get a 1.8 or 2.4 meter dish. I spoke to someone who has a 2.4 fortec star (not the best dish I know) who live about 50 kilometres away from me, and they said they had all channels.

I'm was thinking 1 80cm dish with motor fixed to the house for her channels and a large dish in the garden for Astra2d

Have been reading a Hungarian Forum (With the help of google and my own bad Hungarian) and it appears that many are reporting signals for ASTRA1N as being stronger than ASTRA2D and getting channels. Seems if you live west side of the Danube (Duna) river then a 100 - 150 cm dish is working. Have been trying to find out exact equipment.
 
I watch a few of the Hungarian channels at home in the UK. A lot of the channels have dual English Audio.

UPC Hungary on 1w or Digi TV would be your best bet.

Yes, I think the subscription will be with Digi TV / Hello HD as they have Digisport and Digisport + which will give me EPL games and some FA cup, then if I can pick up Astra2D & Astra1N I can get Match of the day, and England International matches on ITV. F-1 on RTL Club, bit of news and that is all I need.

Is that what you call Black Country Humour ;) 9e or 1w, still have to pay for her channels :) I think the only FTA channels are 5 :- Duna (crap) M1, M2 (not so good) TV2 (good for her soap) and RTL club (Good for F-1)
