I have been seriously looking at the Icecrypt S3700, but I cannot find any hint of it on the Icecrypt site. I found Red Apple Digital are selling it:

www.redappledigital.co.uk/Icecrypt-S370-High-Definition-Triple-Tuner-Satelli-p/s3700.htm

Basically I am about to buy either the Amiko Alien 2 box with wtih DVB-2/DVB-S2 tuners and DVB/T/T2 tuner and a rake of things you can do with them, but I am familiar with the icecrypt boxes and they offer good support.

I am concerned that the S3700 is not on the Icecrypt site, so is this a proper STB???

Many thanks!

For anyone searching for the S3700 I contacted Icecrypt and they had only just released it yesterday! I have attached the spec PDF that they e-mailed me.

Looks like a good box, although I think it might have the same gubbins as the Alien 2 (same CPU for sure) just with an RF modulator.

Its an Alien 2 in a different box with an RF modulator built in :-lmao

Do we know who are selling them yet? Should be interesting to see how the build quality compares with the Alien2.

Steve please take care with live links to other sites. its against forum rules.

Ah right sorry! I was only trying to make it easier for anyone looking up the S3700! Point taken, I did try to upload the PDF but it disappeared for some reason.

Anyway, they did say that it was manufactured in the same factory but Icecrypt stated that they have made certain hardware improvements... thing is, for me, if I buy a quantity of these and I have issues, I can be at their HQ in an hour so I'm not that worried... with the Alien 2 boxes no way I'm driving half way up the country in the van to sort that out!

I'm going up to Icecrypt on Thursday to have a look at one and see what the firmware is like, I shall report back...

Let me know how you get on Steve. Any idea on price. Is it likely to be similar to that of the Alien2?

it would be appreciative if you can find out if it will run the same E2 firmware as the other SH4 boxes in production.

If there are hardware improvements it may be worth looking at once the software gets to a more usable standard.

If your dealing direct with the manufacturer i can't see there being any issues with supply or repairs either

Well I might be selling these as an official retailer so I'm going up to test it out and see for myself as I'll be using them in installs too. I would suspect these will be the same retail price as the Alien 2 at £149 inc VAT.

Ok so I bought one of these and installed it for a customer last week. I knew that it might be too complex for her and said that I would be happy to swap the box if she wasn't happy. I didn't have enough time to look into it in great detail but it seems getting the 7 day EPG going is a bit difficult. Anyway, I'm swapping it for a standard Freesat PVR today and will have a play with it over the weekend and report back...

All Icecrypt Linux receivers have been rebadged "Octagon" receivers, the whole lack of support with the 3000 put me right off the idea of buying any in the future, has the level of support changed at all?

If its based on the same platform and is near enough the same price as the Alien2 it should get quite a following.

Not quite right, Octagon, Icecrypt and Atevio receivers apart from the Icecrypt S3700 are made by one Koren manuafctuer - Fortis, the differences are the front panel display and boot loaders, apart from this they are the same, but to say Icecrypt have been rebadged is incorrect.

Well, I installed one of these for a customer 3 weeks ago. It was on the understanding that it was a new box and is not a standard FreeSat box. After going back to site 3 times to try to resolve ongoing EPG issues she has finally asked for a refund.

I have been in touch with Ray from Icecrypt several times to try to resolve it to no avail.

I'm not the all knowing oracle of satellite by any means, but I do know my way round most STBs. To say I'm pissed off is a big understatement and until Icecrypt get the firmware just right, I'll be leaving well alone.

That's a pity! That's the Icecrypt and the Alien 2 off my list for the moment. Thanks for the update.

If its anything like the Alien 2 i would stay well away for now. Until the E2 firmware is sorted this box will continue to be problematic just like the Alien 2 is. As i've said before, unless you know what you are doing with Enigma based Linux boxes they are not a good choice at all.
