So the missus wanted one of these "Kallax" units because of its storage properties for our daughter & that but I want to hide cables by tacking them round the rear of said unit. This brings me to the problem, all IKEA furniture is jam packed full of air, paper & wood chip, was thinking about the stick on plastic square things that have a built in cable tie draw string type action but I have my doubts about them holding up to the passage of time. Any ideas chaps? Thanks.

I just use "Hot Melt Gummy Glue" for cases like this, stick it in place and it will never move till you need to move it, then it comes right off. (with a bit of rubbing)

Code:

If you need it really stuck then use the regular stuff.

And 3M makes some of those squares that don't move once in place.

Problem with a lot of those sticky pad-type clips is that they need to put in-place and left for at least a couple of hours to let the adhesive cure before you attach any cables to them - otherwise the tension caused by the cables pulls the pad off the mounting surface.

OTOH, in my case with an IKEA pine video cabinet bought in the 1990s, I secure the cables in-place with normal pin-type cable clips - bit messy at times but the cables do stay where put.
