My Satellite Setup
1.2 meter dish
technomate box

I can move the dish manually if I
want to change sat
But since the change over to digi
I find it difficult to find satellites
(must be the digi delay )
My Location

Got to confess Ive had a technomate box for 10 years or so.

Got my 1.2 metre dish set in the astra 19.2 direction.
I got one or two others... eg hotbird... by going outside and moving the dish a notch.

Generally I decided to stick with 19.2 east.

However , today , messing about with the controls I hit on the button that
gives a drop down of the sats up there


I hit on Eurobird 9 E and did a blind scan
to my surprise TV and Radio began coming up
Remember Im supposed to be pointing at 19.2 E

I then did a scan on Hotbird 13 E and a ton of TV came up there

A lot of the content looks similar to Astra 19.2 E, but there may be some new interesting channels there

Im thick that I never thought of trying this before !


Unless Im fooling myself it looks like I can pull in TV from those 3 big satellites keeping
my dish fixed at what I think is 19.2 E
 
Nope ..... whatever you get is from 19.2E

The "Satellites" are just crude data tables which mean very little unless scanned in company with a dish aligned accordingly.

And frequencies and other parameters are re-used across the arc - something only possible because you can't get adjacent Satellites (Mostly .................. !!) with a single fixed alignment.

The "Satellite" label is wholly editable and the receiver does not know where your dish is pointed.


Check, for example some of your alleged 13E or 9E Channels against 19.2E listings on Flysat, Lyngsat etc. and you will soon see what's going on!


In fact, Analoguesat is just about to concur.
 
If its pointing at 19E then 19E channels are what you will get no matter which satellites you scan.

Remember the same frequencies are reused over and over again across all the satellites, and you will get channels scanned where the transmission parameters overlap between satellites.

I thought, maybe the fact that my dish is 1.2 metres...

1.2m is massive overkill for those strong Sats anyway -- if you want to see what else is out there, bung it on a Motor!

Quite the opposite: Bigger dish = higher gain on the Satellite it's aligned to, but the Beamwidth is narrower than with a small dish, so there's even less chance of overspill from adjacent positions.

That is the sales patter of certain satellite installers who have never seen/fitted something as big as yours on the end of their meters (oooer)
