Improvements to the 2F map

Would the map be more useful if the "no or very limited reception" reports were colour coded according to dish size like with the coloured blobs for the successful reception??

As you can see from the attached screengrab Ive only got a limited number of coloured icons to play with.

Now I dont really want to use the second row of markers as I dont think the negative reports will stand out enough from the positive ones. I reckon they really need to stand out from each other

However it wont be a big job to change over to use the pin markers on the third row.

Or are things ok as they are??

I agree it would be good to keep the negative reports standing out. I think the pin idea might work.
 
This map is only for UK spot ?But what about pan-european beam?
 
I don't think that the PE beam is in use yet. It may have been fired up briefly during testing but that's all.
 
I think things are ok as they are , if people want to see the negative report information they can click on the icon , just as for positive.
 
Personally I'd say it would be a good idea to do the following:

In my opinion the current pinkish dots to indicate no receiption are not too helpful.. pins seem to be a good idea to me! But: keep them coloured..
I think it would not be just important to know if receiption is possible or not.. it would also be cool to have an indication on how large the dish they used to try it was.. so if you check Rosenheim in Germany. There are two marks VERY close to each other. One succesful report, one unsuccesful. The red dotless marker only tells me: "No receiption". When I click on it I see 1.2 metres. Wouldn't it be good to keep the colour scheme? Like: a blue pin on that one.. indicating: Blue -> 1 metre to 1.5 metres.. pin --> unsuccesful.

I think that would be very helpful for many people!
 
Thanks for all the comments - I was out all last night so didnt get to log on.

The idea for the pins was to use the same colour codes as the positive blob reports, but use the blob/pin to differentiate yes/no.
 
Ive made a start on changing the unsuccessful reports so they are colour coded the same as the blobs. So pins = no reception, blob = reception. What do you think of the change??
 
All "no or unstable reception" markers are now coded the same as the "successful" blobs, using pins to make them stand out :)
 
All we need now is more reports from areas where they are a bit thin on the ground :)
 
As stated by me in previous threads/posts:-

They SES/Astra might fine tweak/refine the uk spotbeam if they know nordic Astra 2F reception results to the detriment of nordic viewers.
 
And the BBC might decide that with the extra power across the UK when they move to 2E, they can change the fec to 7/8 and up the bit rates (which could seriously hurt the more distant expats)

Its far far too late to worry about what SES might or might not do - there are hundreds if not thousands of reports on dozens of forums across Europe - what we post here wont make the slightest difference in the long run.

With the advances in EM simulation SW and computing power the last decade in mind:
SES Astra knows exactly how the new bird is performing.
There are a number of up-link stations across Europe that can be used to verify the performance.
-> Correlate these professional measurements to the simulated footprint and they know everything, trust me!

2D was acceptable for the rights holders.
With 2F the signal power is at least halved (-3dB) outside UK,
and SES will be very happy with the new spot.

The good trend with UK satellite TV today is that the marked demand reception at smaller dish sizes.
-> Then the SNR margin has to increase, and SES will continue to recommend conservative FEC rates.
Hence the bonus of improved fringe reception.

With the dish size on 2F increased to 2.6m (compared to 2Ds 2.03m),
it's just expected that the side lobe and 1st null has moved west over the nordic.
